So if he finishes in the top 60, wins the Sun Belt, goes to a bowl game, gets named Sun Belt and National Coach of the Year, he can make up to $630,000.

Too bad there is not more emphasis on academic performance.

i saw that as well and would hope that the same monetary bonus would be given to success in the classroom, as well as success on the field.

Really? In all honesty, coach Mac was hired here to turn around the program on the field and win ballgames. A team could have a cumulative GPA of 4.0, but if they don't win the coach will be gone faster than you can blink.

If UNT meets a series of academic goals, McCarney gets an extra $5,000.

I think that's pretty fair and equitable. Players remaining eligible and graduating is kind of part of the job description. Incentives reward going above and beyond, and 5K toward academics is about right.

Anybody see the Fresno State coach totally rework his contract and go from a bunch of guaranteed money to heavily incentive based?

All in all a huge step forward in our commitment to competing on a BCS level.

With the increased salaries and overall increased commitment levels, one would have to surmise that increased expectation levels will be attached.

It seems our blink took 3 1/2 years, but TDodge did get the academics in order from all accounts. Surely many still left on staff who were part of that success, too?

At 545,000 where does that rank for the Sun Belt and other Non Aq teams

#1 in Sunbelt using the latest data available, 2009. (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/2009-coaches-contracts-database.htm)

MWC and CUSA have some high paid coaches, June Jones makes about 1.3 million a year...

So we're better off than the MAC, the Belt and even some MWC, but nowhere close to AQ status...

Nonetheless, huge step up from where we were last year
