Bobby Rainey over Lance Dunbar?

:growl:

Dunbar had a rough patch in the middle of the season with FIU and also earlier against Army otherwise he would have been the winner. There was some misuse by Dodge and Company through first 6 games or so.

WTF!?!?!? How is Lance Dunbar not the Sun Belt MVP or Offensive player of the year?!?!? This further proves the Sun Belt is absolute trash!

No this proves that Dodge unfortunately was still running the offense and misused Dunbar much like he misused Jamario when he first arrived.

It looked like Canales called the first two games (Clemson & Rice) without interference. And it looked like the first part of the Army game was his, right up until when D. Thompson went down with the leg injury; and you know who was put in at QB. Dodge definitely had an emphasis on the offense against Army. And I'm not certain if the reigns weren't fully off of Canales until Todd was gone; because things certainly picked up then.

The Haltom Hurricane averaged 5 more yards per carry from the wKYJelly game on.

It shouldn't matter if Lance had a couple of tough games or was misused. It doesn't take a football expert to realize Dunbar is the best player in the Sun Belt (and it's not even close).

If Rainey were a Senior I could MAYBE see their justification since these things always give you a few extra points for being a Senior, but but based on pure production and team conribution, picking Rainey over Lance is absolutely ridiculous. On the other hand, having three out of eleven first teamers on offense is pretty nice when considering our record. Pleasantly surprised that Olen got second team when you consider his very slow start and lack of contribution until late in the season. Nobody can argue about Mr. Robertson's great year.

Considering NT's place in the final standings, NT did better than expected. Yes I do believe that Dunbar should have been the offensive POY if not conference POY, however Rainey also put up some big numbers. Rainey had a higher average yards per game out gaining Dunbar 137.4 to 129.4. However Dunbar averaged almost a yard more per carry at 5.7 to 4.8 and led Rainey slightly in all purpose yards. As noted above, it probably would not have been close other than Dunbar only had 11 carries against FIU and 12 against Army.

Robertson was the leading tackle in the conference and probably should have gotten defensive POY, but those type awards seldom go to players on mediocre teams. Chancellor should led the conference in ko returns but doesn't have the name yet to compete with Jerrigan and Hilton. Olin also is IMO a better kicker than Gendreau kicking 13-15 field goals to his 10-12 and I believe being a better distance kicker. Olien missing two extra points may have been the difference. I also thought NT's defensive tackles deserves recognition but neither showed much via defensive stats.

Special congrats to Gill, not only did he make first team but I don't remember one post this year lamenting his lack of size. Same to Santiago who got off to a slow start because of injury, but came on strong in the end.
