For our last three (thanks CBL) open scholarships I really hope we use one on a JUCO big man. Losing Odufawa, not sure if either Holmen or Edwards have what it takes to be a starter next year. Looking through rivals here are a few unsigned JUCO big men theoretically avilable:

Kenny Buckner

Averaging 13 & 10, with 2 blks and a steel per game.

Not sure someone currently going to school in Idaho and originally from DC wants to come to Texas, but the weather sure is better here.

Louis Green

Avg 17 & 7 at a Cali Juco

Some closer players -

Demario Hines

12 & 9, 3 blks/game at Trinity Valley - currently shows no offers

Leon Gibson

11 & 7 at Navarro

If we could find another Tramiel in a player like these...then the sky is the limit.

Nice finds. We actually have 3 available scholarships with 5 returnees (Alzee, Holmen, Knox, Edwards, Hogans) and 5 new signees (Williams, Jones, Robinson, Norris, Walton).

While I agree we need help up front, I'd prefer it come in the form of a D-1 mid-term transfer...though perhaps a JUCO thrown in up front may be needed to carry us through non-conference play if Edwards, Holmen or Knox don't show something more throughout the season.

Yea - If we could find a Keith Wooden, Odufawa, or Shawnson Johnson who leaves a D1 program in the next month, that would be great. If not we definitely need to consider a JUCO. Even if one of them steps up, we probably need another serviceable big to make up for defeciences in the other. Preferably someone who likes to do the dirty work and shys away from the perimeter jumper. If we Robinson can contribute as a freshman, that would be great, although I never really expect that out of a freshman big.

Robinson's weight won't allow him to play inside his freshmen season (think stick thin). Even in high school, I don't think he plays consistently in the post. We sorely need a banger in the post with one (if not 2) of the remaining 3 'ships.

This is not a knock on Robinson. Having a 6'10" guy that plays the wing brings all kinds of match up problems for other teams, but you still need the wide bodies to do the grunt work.

Robinson is a great signee, but it would be shocking for a AA player out of West Texas to make a major contribution in his Freshman year. Robinson, Holmen, and Edwards seem to have the mindsets of small forwards, so If that doesn't change pretty quickly, I'm afraid we'll be in deep trouble next year without a tough guy down low to complement Hogans. Hope JJ already has someone in mind.
