Pit Review

Pretty much just a guy's blog, but I thought it was interesting to read an outsider's opinion. He was there for the TTU game.

As I pulled up to the campus, there was so much traffic that it took me a half hour to get off of Interstate 35 to get on campus. If that doesn't tell you how popular their men's basketball program is then I don't know what will.

I've lived in Denton all my life. I have never heard of the old gym, Men's Gym, now The Ken Bahnsen Gym, ever flooding. The name "Snake Pit" came from an opposing coach back in the Missouri Valley Conference days. He was commenting as to how hard it was to play there since the fans were so close to the court. He suggested that playing at Men's Gym like playing in a "snake pit." The Coliseum was built bigger and nicer, and took on the nick name, Super Pit.

I found this part of the article interesting:

Some of the most notorious dens of iniquity and antiquity—where the home court advantage over the last 10 years has averaged three wins to every loss—are shown on these pages. Sadly, perhaps they are a vanishing breed.

Since 2001, we're 102-36 not including exhibitions, but including one game at the Snake Pit and a couple conference tourney games. That's a 73.9% home court winning percentage.

Since the Pit Crew started in 2003, we're 87-24, a 78.4% winning percentage, and that's a 3.625:1 home court advantage.

You flat-out just cannot beat the experience that you receive here at UNT for the price. You get a tremendous amount of bang for your buck because you can get lower level seats for $10 and students get in free with a college ID.

I try to get as many of my friends and neighbors to come out. Everyone that I have brought have had a great experience... Just don't understand why more don't end up seeing a game on their own. Possibily the shear amount of things one can spend their entertainment $$$ on within a 30 minutes drive.

It's a great deal, that's why I go...well that and the dancers...
