Will Canales Stay On The Sidelines?

Happen to just think about something.... Canales could call plays from the booth. What was missing was his energy....and that needs to be on the field right next to the players. What are the chances of him calling plays next year from the sidelines again like he did when he was IHC?

I thought Coach Hines called the plays once Chico took the IHC position (?)

At any rate, I don't believe Coach Mac will be lacking energy. And I expect he'll hire more of the same as assistants. Some of them are going to be on the sideline, and some in the booth. OC probably goes in the booth.

It has been said that Hines called the plays but I guess I am not referring to the playcalling aspect.....just the presence of him down on the sideline.

I was wondering the same thing. I think it'll come down to whatever Canales is more comfortable with. He might be more comfortable in the box where he has a much better view of what's happening on the field.

It's a good question. The guy likes to run up and down the sideline as the play is going by. Don't most OCs call the game from the booth?

Gus Malzahn OC at Auburn calls plays from the sidelines. It all depends on what is most comfortable for the OC and which is best for the team. There is nothing wrong with either being on the sidelines or in the booth.

The guys who "call plays from the sidelines" have a sidekick up in the press box. It worked great with Canales on the sidelines and Coach Hines (ex La Tech Offensive Coordinator) upstairs. Canales did it this way at USF and Arizona as well. You will probably see a similar setup to this next season.
