I realize that no matter who North Texas hires as the new head football coach, that man may not be everyone's first choice, but why not wholeheartedly support the new coach?

It doesn't make sense to me that supposedly the people on this website who make up 80% plus of the "die hard" Mean Green fans; yet many are making statements in the context that their support of the program is contingent of Leach, Franchione, or Leavitt being hired. If those "fans"" truly feel that way and believe that way, I'd say go ahead and find another program to support. If indeed Rick and Rawlins choose Dan McCarney, why would you not support that decision? It just seems like the supposed "expert die-hards" think they know more than professionals making the decision and already have a "glass half-empty" view on the man without him ever stepping foot on campus. I'd like to think that this coaching situation is the land of opportunity and the program can turn the corner quickly. We all know selecting coaches is a crapshoot, but no matter who the choice is, why not fully get behind it, and support the program if you are truly a fan?

I mostly agree with the premise of this thread. I believe that fans, while not professionals, have the right to form and hold opinions about the various candidates. And I believe that RV, President Rawlins, and Chuck Neinas, while professionals, are certainly fallible. But with that said, I would hope that once the new coach is announced, all of us would get behind him, his staff, and the team.

Well, it's not our support I'm concerned about. I hope the players support the new coach.

And Greendylan that is why if Chico is not the head coach that I hope he is retained as an Associate Head Coach because he has the guys playing as the NT Eagles (i.e., Mean Green).

Once he's announced I'll put my support behind him. Until then, I'll let RV and others read our concern and dissapointment with the hire.

I'm with Mark on this one. I will be 100% behind the program no matter what. But as of now, DM is but a rumor, who I will be 100% against until the moment it is official.

I will continue to support this program after the hire, but I reserve the right to challenge questionable hires. If people want to shut me up, Win, and win often. I'll be a fan of this program long after McCarney is gone, and after our leadership at the university is gone.
