At Large Bid?

say we lose 4 games all year, one of them being in sun belt tourney... Could qualify as an at large? Do we have to beat LSU or on road against WKU?

Still way, WAY too early to speculate about the odds of that happening. At this point, 90% of it depends on the rest of the conference and how they handle the remaining OOC games.

Ask again in a month. (Seriously)

i don't think lsu would be a guality win. they have nothing this year. also, we probably would have a better chance at nit bid than ncaa at large.

I tried to Google it but has a 4 loss team ever not made the tournament in the expanded field of 64/65?

In 2003-2004 Utah St. was 25-3 and 17-1 in the Big West...

They lost to Cal-St. Northridge in the conference tournament and had road losses to Utah amd Pacific...

Only the loss to Northridge was to a team that didn't play in the NCAA Tournament...

They were denied an at-large NCAA bid and played in the NIT where they lost their first game to Hawaii...

Now every team from a non-BCS conference sweats an at-large bid...

NOTHING is guaranteed unless you win your tournament...

I hate to say this , but we will have more than just 4 losses at the end of the season. There will be games where the outside shot just isn't falling , we get in foul trouble or heaven forbid we get another injury

We don't have the depth to over look anyone at this point. Road games with Sam Houston State & Texas Southern ( who we matched up terrible with last season) with both be very tough and you know that UTA is never easy. While in conference we will get the very best from everyone and having road games @ Middle,wKu & denver will all be a knock down drag out.

With the way the conference is playing this willl be a 1 bid league yet again. Our best bet is to just win the conference tourney and not even worry about it. Worst case , get to 20+ wins , hope Texas Tech has a good season , beat LSU and win the conference regular season title to at least ensure the NIT bid.

Like Tasty said , it's way to early and we should just talk about this again in a month

This is the surest path to the post-season. Take care of business in the conference season, get the 1st round bye in the conference tourney (which is HUGE), and hope for the best in Hot Springs.

Other notable 6 or fewer loss teams from the past 10 years (not a complete list) that didn't get any at large consideration:

5 loss Butler in 2001-02

5 loss Boston in 2003-04

6 loss Holy Cross in 2004-05

5 loss Stephen F. Austin in 2007-08

6 loss Coastal Carolina last season

If your league lets you down, you can finish with just 3 or 4 non-conference losses and still wind up with no NCAA (or, in some cases... no postseason at all).

At this point in the program, I judge success or failure on the SBC tournament. This team is good enough to win it so I expect to make the NCAAs regardless.

With that said, I know the big dance is the dream -- not conference titles. At large bids are 'we know your good and losing your conference tourney was just bad luck' rewards for historically doing well in the tourney against established, good teams (not to mention doing well in the reg season v those teams as well).

We haven't beaten ranked teams in the regular season or anyone in the big dance so I can't be disappointed at not getting an at-large bid. Just haven't paid our dues as a program yet.
