Last night was the first chance I have had to see the basketball squad in person and here are a few impressions I have...

First, thanks to everyone who steered me on where to park... Very helpful and I had no issues...

Well, as my 10-yr old and I were walking into the Pit trying to figure out where to buy some tickets, a woman came up to us and offered us a pair gratis... Section 108 Row J... VERY nice...!!

ESPN has the attendance at around 3400... I thought, for the most part, that the 3400 acquitted themselves nicely...

The Pit Crew did a fantastic job of getting people back into the game in the 2nd half when it looked like Rice might run away and hide...

At the end most people were standing and I only got a few dirty looks from the people behind us... Seriously people, if you can't stand in the last couple of minutes when the teams are going back and forth then I just don't know what to say...

As for the team, I think any honest estimation of UNT at this point would say that there is a lot of work to be done...

Rice is a decent well-coached team, but they are the type of team we need to be able to take care of and not sweat the last 5 minutes...

There is a lot of talk on this board about RPI and a home loss to a group like Rice would be horrible for RPI...

Rice will have a losing season and I doubt will win a whole lot of C-USA games...

That being said, the team showed a lot of heart after the Owls got hot with their 3's and started to pull away a little...

We did a good job in the 2nd half of getting on #32 and not letting him bomb those wide open 3's...

And I think UNT is going to win a lot of close games because of free throw shooting...

Game-long intensity could use some work...

One final note: I sat next to a small group of Rice fans who were lustily cheering #20 and became more vocal as the Owls started to build a lead...

At one point one of the girls yelled, "Go Rice!"...

My son looked at her and said, "'Go Rice'? Isn't that like saying 'Go Voldemort?'

He got some big-time eye daggers shot at him for the rest of the game... LOL

All-in-all a great game...

After reading the title of this thread, I thought somebody started a discussion on one of my favorite movies starring Demi Moore and Rob Lowe.

Rice is a good team. Their only 2 losses this year have been on the road to teams who will probably make the post season. I'd mark them down to finish around .500 , if not a little better.

About today.....why couldn't OU beat the living tar out of Chaminade?

OU sucks. They almost got beat by North Carolina Central in Norman (looked like 1,000 people were in attendance). I really wish we were playing them this year. Home or road North Texas would win.

      I would like them to be good enough to be Quad 1 but not too good to get Will Wade hired away because they're our only home game on the books for next year lol.

      UTSA Game Poll

      UTSA is 4-0 at home and 0-5 away for 4-5 overall. NT is 3-2 at home and 2-2 away for 5-4 overall. They haven't gone thru the 3 game gauntlet NT has. Homer says we'll win by 14.

      Around the League / UNT Opponents

      figure one main thread to keep track of how our opponents are faring. the AAC is off to a pretty strong start...overall record of 29-7. plus currently Oregon State, High Point and Utah State / St. Bonaventure are all 3-0 - Memphis (2-0) with two quality wins v. Mizzou and UNLV. they should be undefeated (though San Francisco isn't a gimmie) heading into a 11/25 game with UCONN. - UAB (2-1)...I thought their loss to Vermont wouldn't look too bad, but UV has two pretty ugly losses now. really intriguing game tomorrow 11/15 v. High Point - FAU (2-1) look tough...their loss was by 6 to UCF who already beat then 13th A&M. - the other undefeated teams, ECU (3-0), Temple (3-0), Tulane (3-0), Tulsa (3-0), Wichita St. (2-0) collectively really haven't played much of a schedule...best win is probably WSU over WKU...but they've made pretty light work of what's in front of them. Games of interest over the next week or so: 11/14 - Northern Iowa @ Wichita State 11/15 - UAB @ HighPoint ; Temple @ Boston College ; FAU v. Charlston and Liberty (11/16) 11/21 - Memphis @ San Francisco ; FAU v. Oklahoma State (3 day tourney...would play Miami or Drake next)

      Sure but how good is Charlotte? They beat Richmond who lost to Marist. Utah State's other D1 win is against 0-3 Alcorn State who lost to an NAIA school. Again too early to really tell either way.

      they dropped 100 on a conference mate. currently 47 in KenPom. Memphis is at 37 and currently our highest rated opponent.
