Super Pit Banners

Remember how RV suprised Jalie Mitchell and Rosalyn Reades in thier last home game with the announcement that thier jerseys would be retired?

Ever notice that the banners up on the Super Pit are a little less quality than those in the gym of your local high school?

I got an explanation why Jalie and Rosalyn's jerseys have not been retired and the banners more or less suck (or at least the excuse that was given to the hoops teams): MONEY.

Folks we must be on hard times if we cannot pay for two decent banners to raise to the top of our exceptional basketball facility to honor some of our greatest players. This is a terrible excuse that was given to the players/former players who asked about it, and if it is true, then our athletic department will never get a freaking stadium built if they cant get two banners.

Here is my proposition, why can't the posters of this board start a fund to:

1) Pay for a banner for Jalie and Rosalyn (I know it's not cheap, but it won't be expensive either, we are talking banners here).

and possibly

2) replace the two current banners with something nice that our alumni and fans can be proud and point out when visitors come to the Super Pit.

I don't feel like this is asking a lot, but who/how would I need to go through to get this done, and who would be willing to help do this and donate it from gomeangreen.com? The Super Pit is the nicest sports facility we have by far and hosts everything from MG games to HS games to dance competitions, and something seemingly as trivial as some banners could really improve the perception of our basketball program and honor our greats.

So who's with me, how should we do it, and and any other feedback you may have, let's hear it.

Ok, I am sure money has a lot to do with it. But I see it more like this...........very close to bball season someone said, "Ohh @%$%# we said we would retire their numbers. Lets just hurry and throw something up there to make it look like we haven't dropped the ball"

They didn't even do that. There are no banners for Jalie and Rosalyn and the two up there (one men's and one women's conference championship) aren't what you would expect from a Division 1 university, but from a class A high school.

Well at Alvord (Class A) when our ladies went to the state championship game (and lost) they put up a very large team picture that could be seen easily from the stands (ok, so it was a small gym with concrete bleachers on one side and a wall on the other side but it was still very visible).

I guess you are talking about the banners that have been there for years..............couldn't agree more. They make us look bad.

Having halfway respectable banners will show potential recruits (that will help us get that new banner) that NT has had great teams and great players. As it is, it looks like our men had one good year in thier history and the women had one. That's it.

I know realize this is a lost cause and if I posted on the football board that the locker room needs more TP an immediate fund would be set up and it would be taken care of , but banners about our school's great teams and players in the Super Pit is not high on anyones priority list right now.

It does suck they told Jalie, Rosalyn, and everyone else there they would have thier jersey retired and it hasn't happend because there isn't enough money. I am hoping there are one or two alumni out there who actually give a crap about basketball that would be willing to help see to it that these two great players are honored (like at real D1 schools which we claim to be on par with).

The banners your criticizing that supposedly make us look so bad represent the best teams we have had ever since. I think what makes us look bad the most is one winning season in the past 6 or so, you think? But at the time they were hung those banners looked just fine, in fact they look just as good as what I've seen in other university's gyms. Not the best, but as good as in SOME places. Your forgetting that at the time the '87' 88' teams played our AD dept was a 1-AA program and the head football coach was the AD too. Also remember we just replaced the ORIGINAL floor that came with the Super Pit this past season and also included upgrades in lighting systems and the new boards and all. Baby steps!

As far as the rest about the two girls and not following through with promises well....?

There have been some women's co-champs there are no banners for as well.

I realize that people would rather donate beer for tailgaiting than make the Super Pit look better, just thought I'd throw it out there anyway.

People donate beer for tailgating because me and about 20 other Mean Green Nation members ASK them too. It's not the Mean Green Nations' responsibility to ASK for donations for this athletic department. But if you feel so compelled then lets have a fundraiser. I'm game for it. Put it together, organize a meeting(on a night I'm off duty hopefully) and get going.

I've bought enough Arkansas State burgers at the State Club to pay for all the banners the Super Pit could need, so there's our solution, case closed.
