Arkansas State vs Pacific @ NIT Tip-Off, Springfield, IL

Troy @ UT - San Antonio

Not holding my breath tonight. Pacific is a good basketball team with wins over Nevada and UTEP so far. ASU has shown no signs of life and I don't see it turning around tonight.

UTSA has 2 wins against patsies, and a tight road loss against a MVC bottom-dweller...yet I still think they take Troy.

I was optimistic last week and ended up highly disappointed. Maybe lowered expectations will help out.

I watched the entirety of the UTEP-Pacific game and they are definitely for real... They can shoot the 3 and they pass well into the interior...

UTEP had an 11-point lead at halftime that was completely erased at the beginning of the 2nd half when Pacific began to rain in 3's from all over the place... They hit something like 7 or 8 in a row...

In their game with UCLA they hit their first two 3's and then went 1-21 the rest of the game and got blown out... They shot 25% for the game...

Like most teams that live by the 3, if Pacific is missing them they are in some trouble, although they do have a nice low post player in Sam Willard who had 26 against the Miners and 18 against the Bruins...

Not on topic for tonight's games, but do ya'll (CBL, Tasty, CMJ ect.) have any real feeling on South Alabama this year? They got hammered at Southern Miss. I see that they have UAB and LSU as their next two games. UAB beat MTSU, so I'd like to see the league bounce back and hand them a loss, and LSU still seems to be struggling a bit. Would be nice if USA could step up with a couple of consecutive OOC wins, but I don't really have a read on them.

I get the sense Ronnie Arrow is still trying to figure out exactly who is going to contribute...he's used 3 different line-ups through 3 games and has yet to get 3 consistent games from any one player. Tim Williams settled in against CMU...Martino Brock has yet to really get going. Looks like Rubit is a legit post option with his second double-double against CMU if he can stay on the court (fouled out in 11 minutes vs. USM).

USA's next 4 are @UAB, home for LSU, @ Alabama, @ Louisville...thats a hell of a run...and I'd take 2-2 from them in a heartbeat. That probably means they have to win their first 2.

If Williams keeps up his hot shooting, Rubit stays on the floor and two of their wings (Brock, Redus, Sanders, Reyes) can give them double figures that should be very doable.

Well, reading some on this board, if you get blown out in one loss, your season is shot and you can't "take it to the next level with the current regime" :D

Thanks for the thoughts on USA. I'm hoping they turn out to be formitable in the East. We need a couple more teams to pick it up in OOC play this year so the league's RPI doesn't tank. I'd hate for the SBC's rep in the Tourney to end up with another 15 seed.

Pacific 77

ASU 70

At least they made it respectable...but thats 0-4. Nice to see Malcon Kirkland doing, I don't know, something. It doesn't appear that Donald Boone is back 100% and healthy enough to be a go to guy.
