Absolutely love this idea. I realize the great game is a sacred sport but it has to keep up with the times and more teams with chances at the post season not only increases buzz in the game but gives other cities other than the big boys a chance. The only thing they need to do is shorten the regular season. 162 games is way too long and if they expand to 10 teams the season may just go through all of November. I say downsize the regular season to 140 games, expand the playoffs and that is a great start to where baseball eventually needs to be.

Depends on what kind of playoff proposal they use for the wildcard teams. Baseball players tend to thrive on routine, so in a weird way giving teams "byes" might work against them. If you truly want to punish the WC teams, then a 1 game playoff would probably work best.

Three division winners and two wildcard teams in each league. The wildcard teams will play a 5-game series with the winner facing the league's #1 seed and the other two division champs playing each other. Basically, there will be a play-in series between the two wildcards.

You can't let the division winners have that much time off, it'd be more of a disadvantage than an advantage IMHO.
