Old news. The DMN hasn't assigned one of its own to cover UNT in forever. This Tech "reporter" covered the game from Lubbock -- not exactly a high profile effort. Fact is, the DRC is in the same corporate family as the DMN and Vito does a great job. That doesn't mean they shouldn't give his stories and his blog presence better play.

With the Belo Corp owning both the DMN and the DRC, they let all UNT coverage come from the local source, which makes sense. What doesn't make sense at all is that the DMN doesn't have any coverage of UNT other than a bit piece from Vito every once in a while. In reality, most of alumni live in the Metroplex somewhere. The DMN at least can use the DRC as an excuse--what does the Star-Telegram have as an excuse? Or how about all of the Tv stations and their sports departments? The issue here is that the DFW Media all think this way--if you weren't from the SWC, you just don't matter. Even then, the only teams that really get attention are the Big XII South schools.
