Trooper Taylor would definitely be an incredible recruiter. But I'm not sold on him as a HC at all, not yet. He has never even been solely responsible for coordinator duties. And his experience is limited to BCS AQ schools. It's a whole other matter to build up a non-AQ school, as coaches like Leavitt, Canales, and Franchione have experience in.

As I said, he certainly has questions. I was in no way advocating him for the job. I was merely pointing out that for some, recruiting in Texas is a question mark. For others, it is not. And there are questions about everyone.

Now, to defend Trooper some, while still making it CLEAR that I'm not saying "HIRE TAYLOR!". He worked at Baylor, which, even as a BCS AQ school, was hardly a choice job, New Mexico, and Tulane. All as position coaches, sure, but the sum total of his experience wasn't all at BCS AQ schools. Also, I think his being an assistant head coach and experience in player development actually qualifies him MORE for a HC job than being a coordinator, since that involves managing academics and coordination of players and position coaches.

Thank you for the correction regarding his work at non BCS AQ schools--I misspoke, and have fixed my previous post.

Yes, those positions may have been valuable. I just hold up his resume next to Canales', much less Leavitt's or Franchione's, and I don't think he has nearly the background to be a successful HC at UNT as they do.

Seriously?

You have to be doing a bit. Surely you know that, even if Canales gets the head coaching job, there will be huge, HUGE, changes made in the assistant coaching ranks. If Canales gets the job, he will want to bring his coaches in. That's the way it works in college football.

Oh, I somehow doubt there'll be a "huge, HUGE" change among the assistants if Canales is The Man. These coaches are working together very well. I've take a shine to them. I wish they were small enough to fit in my attache so I could carry them back and forth to the office with me.

Dilusional.

This isn't his staff. He didn't hire them. He will make wholesale changes if he gets the job.

Are you really that happy with this coaching staff's record? They were a part of the last 2 years, ya know.
