Dan Hawkins would certainly be a candidate were he available. His overall FBS record before this season was 69-44 in spite of the bad years at Colorado. In fact, Boise State more mirrors our profile so I could cut him some slack if he was less than successful at the BCS school.

However, since our selection should take place in a few weeks and he won't likely be shown the door until the end of the season, I think that the idea is moot.

You'd have to consider him. Let's make sure he has no other sons coming of college age before offering him a job. I'd hate to have to go through the crap he pulled with his son @ CU. Before you Riley haters chime in, it's not even close to what happened here. At least, Riley is a legitimate D1 athlete.

You'd definitely have to consider him. We'd all jump at Chris Petersen, but he's taken an already successful program and made it better. Dan Hawkins began their run of WAC success.

I think Dirk Koetter started Boise's run of success. Hawkins built on that....and Chris Peterson has taken it even higher.

I was referring specifically to their run of success in the WAC, which I see as being comparable to the Belt. Hawkins became head coach the same year they entered the WAC. But yes, they have only improved with each coaching change.

I like Hawkins because he knew to bench is kid. And he was awesome at Boise, which is who we aspire to be more like.

He only benched him after his job began hanging by a thread.

North Texas comes much closer to mirroring Boise State than it does Colorado.

Boise State is a member of a non-AQ conference; Colorado has long been in the upper hierarchy of college football. The Broncos has had the nation's top conference winning streak (as has North Texas). Both have stadium turf which matches their school colors. Boise and North Texas have been in the same conference.

There are no exact matches among universities in the FBS but there are far more similarities between Boise State and North Texas at this juncture than there are between Boise State and Colorado.
