I got to thinking about this after I read the Riley quote from the Daily...every coaching change will bring about turnover with some really good players transferring out...aside from the obvious players like Lance Dunbar, who are the underclassmen the new HC needs to hard sell to commit to the program? I've 4:

Brandon McCoy - If he's not on one, give him a scholarship now...keep him at DE and let him work.

Zach Orr/Jeremy Phillips - Both future all SBC.

Brelan Chancellor - Dynamic...I thought this was a throw in scholarship to lock up Byrd, but I've $10 that says he ends the special team TD drought this year.

I think there will be a run on "_________ to Transfer" threads in the future...but these are the 4 I would be really upset to see go.

I don't want UNT to lose any players. I am not sure UNT can afford to lose any one at this stage of the game. But, the players you mention are certainly important going forward.

I doubt McCoy is tranferring anywhere simply because he only has 1 year of eligibility correct?

I think if Riley is committed to this program then all the other guys will be too, he has the most reason to leave.

However, much has been made of Zach Orr's familial connections to Dodge. I hope he sticks around. Other than Orr & Riley and maybe some of the SLC guys like Leppo, I'm not sure there were any specific players that came here just to play for Dodge.

I think McCoy has 2 after this season. You may be thinking of Dixon?

I don't think he would leave, but if we move to a running offense I fear the possibility losing mr. Carey. He was getting frustrated last game when we couldn't move the ball ...what would he do if he hardly got the ball for his last two seasons?

I don't think that anyone leaves until the coach is selected and his staff is known. If the players feel that winning is imminent then I think that they stay to enjoy the new facilities.

The only other name that comes quickly to mind is Zach Olen. He seems to have gotten his act together and good kickers are a must.

All of the Metroplex players, especially, should love to show off the new stadium to their parents, relatives and friends.

Yes, there is usually turnover after a coaching change, but more often than not it is instigated by the coach. I would think the majority of the players look forward to a fresh start, the last three years couldn't have been that enjoyable. NT has a handful of great or potentially great players, and even if all of them decided to leave; NT is still ahead making the decision. Dodge lost a few of Dickey's recruits but most forget that over half of Parker's squad was gone soon after Simon arrived.

Hopefully, NT can keep the vast majority because it is down in numbers and medical redshirts can be obtained for Tune, Byne, Johnson, Leppo, Thompson and others. This team has shown that it doesn't have a lot of quitters involved, and I doubt a new coach is going to scare any of them.

A good coach will coach the players who remain. And, a good coach will bring in recruits who can replace whomever leaves.

I can't think of one indispensable player on the roster. That's not to say we don't have some good ones. But, none are tearing up the league in any way shape or form.

Besides, the new coach will do what all new coaches do - come in and say every position is up for grabs. That way, everyone works with renewed vigor.

Right.

My concern stems from what will happen when RV hires Jeff Bower.

Many dissed Dodge his first couple of years because players left. Now with a new coach, players leaving is just part of the process when a new coach comes in it now seems. My how times and attitudes change so quickly!

My understanding is the players have been looking forward to the change, I don't see anyone leaving under their own freewill, this gives them hope the same as many of us.

It just donned on me that McCoy may not need a scholarship; because of the GI Bill.

If you've ever attended college on a GI bill, you'll know that those checks don't always arrive on time. Reading through "the history of North Texas", or whatever they call it, after WWII, some players kept themselves going with the GI Bill and received scholarships after they earned them. I think it was Odus Mitchell who told one if he didn't earn a scholarship, he wouldn't stay on the team.

If RV hires Bower, you guys are going to have to worry about me leaving. That is the only hire possible that will make me give up on RV completely.

Okay, I won't quit completely, I'll still come to games and do haiku with my buddies on this board but I won't enjoy it as much.

I think you guys missed the brilliant prognostication. Give me my due.

I was at the game trying to figure out who called it. I was going to look it up today and give props , but since it's just you..... meh

I called it long before he did but somebody must have deleted the thread.

Plus... I called the whole Riley thing.
