Doing well in his first season as head coach at Youngstown State. He's a Youngstown guy around the same age at the younger Stoops brother. Was out OL coach in 2003.

If we're going to hire current head coaches, I like this guy. He's coached under Bill Snyder, Steve Spurrier, and Jim Leavitt. Was a player at Kansas State when they were making their historic climb to respectability.

By the way, Kansas State's 1994 coaching staff, when Wolford was a senior, was just ridiculous:

Head Coach: Bill Snyder

Offensive Coordinator: Del Miller

-Hayden Fry's recruiting coordinator for 10 years

-Head coach at Missouri State 1995-1998

-Offensive cooridnator on 2003 K-State staff that upset OU for Big 12 title

-Currently, Offensive coordintor/QB coach at San Diego State...who is two wins from being bowl eligible for the first time since 1998. Yes, it's only take Brady Hoke two seasons to rebuilt San Diego State.

Running Game Coordinator: Dana Dimel

-Head coach of Wyoming (1997-1999) and Houston (2000-2002)

-Currently, co-offensive coordinator/running backs coach at Kansas State. Returned in 2009 with Snyder.

Tight Ends: Manny Matsakis

-Head coach of Emporia State (1995-1998) and Texas State (2003)

Running Backs: Mark Mangino

-Head coach of Kansas (2002-2009)

Offensive Line: Rod Humenuik

-Assistant head coach and offensive coordinator of 1985 New England Patriots team that went to the Super Bowl; former UNT coach Rod Rust was the defensive coordintator

-OL coach for national champion USC squad in 1967

-Head coach of Principia College (2000-2002)

-At age of 76, still coaching OL at Hamline University

Co-Defensive Coordinator: Jim Leavitt

-Head Coach of South Florida (1997-2009)

Co-Defensive Coordinator: Bob Stoops

-Head Coach of Oklahoma (1999-Present)

Defensive Line: Mo Lattimore

-Still the Wildcats DL coach; longest tenured assistant in the Big 12

Defensive End: Mike Stoops

-Head Coach of Arizona (2004-Present)

C'mon... Like a head coach could seriously jump up from Youngstown State and compete immediately at the D-1A level.

Never happen.

Maybe... MAYBE if you could give me an example of that ever having worked before, I'd consider it.

Would he also coach the O line?

Sure, but anyone can jump from D1AA to Ohio State and be succeddful with all of their assets. Same with SDSU, but we should never expect the same a little ol' NT.

I'd guess yes.

Again, I said "If we're going to hire current head coaches..."

The only reason I bring it up is that Rick said during the press conference that there might be some current head coaches out there who might consider coming here based on new facilities and whatnot.

I'd think we'd have a better shot at matching an FCS salaried head coach at this point than any winning FBS head coach.

The X factor working against us, though, is that Wolford is a Youngstown native. That may be his dream job. Still, I think he'd be pretty pleasantly surprised at the changes in facilities if Rick flew him in. I don't think he's been back to Denton since 2003.

Then let me throw mine into the lot.... JC Harper of SFA if we are going to pick a IIA coach primed for the IA leap.

I like Harper as well. And, I really like him because: (1) he is a defensive coach, and (2) he's coached all over - Clemson, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Western Michigan, McNeese State, Northwestern State, Missouri State.

In short, he'd bring the defensive mindset many here believe we've been missing. And, he's got contacts all over the country for hiring assistants and recruting.

I'd welcome RV throwing J.C. Harper into the mix. He's taken what was an awful S.F.A. program and turned it around.

Turned it around and then some....minus their TAMU loss I don't think they have a loss this year and have really put the hurt onto some teams they play. Guy is an all around catch. Not gonna compare him with TCU and BSU's situation but if there were one Texan looking to break out and make a big name for himself then this is the guy that can do it. We can afford him easily as well.
