Hire Jim Leavitt NOW! He hired Canales twice, so he knows how to work with him. Get Leavitt on the ground now and he will kick it up a notch and close out the year on the upswing, put some butts in the seats for your last homes games and get started recruiting both Texas and Florida.

Hiring a permanent coach at midseason would make UNT a laughingstock in the sports media. Neither Jim Leavitt nor anyone else with decent job prospects would agree to that.

The key to getting Leavitt is for RV to pull the trigger and just do it. If he waits, interviews a few people and watches to see all his options he'll be left with...well, the leftovers.

I'd rather be mean and green than golden and a gopher.

Welcome to the board Coach Leavitt. I hope RV gives you a call tomorrow.

Not too sure about that; the search committee consists of him and President Lane Rawlins; he of BYU, Washington State, Memphis, and a Mormon from Idaho, whose only prominent coach hiring decision was bb coach Calipari at Memphis. Leavitt have anything in common with any of that?

My personal opinion...That is the wrong way to hire a coach. The more people you have making a decision, the more indecision you will have, the more time that will be wasted and the more candidates you will lose. Coaches (with current jobs) cannot afford to have their names batted around in the press and that is a bad thing with their current employer. An AD should be free to do his job without a bunch of folks looking over his shoulder, second guessing and micromanaging him. He should quietly talk directly to the candidates and make a swift decision.

I'm glad to see you're so interested in the job, Jim. You're a top candidate on my list. I hope you can keep your hands to yourself if you become Mean Green.
