Did U See Rice Beat Uh? Prediction: We'll See A New Hfc

Just put the Rice/UH thing in there for those who think UH will tear us out a new one next Fall at our stadium debut. Seems this was the same Rice team who really did have a difficult time beating a "healthy" UNT? Just makes me think our UH game will be much closer than we'd previously thought.

I think whoever we hire at UNT will turn this thing around his first year. The stage is set for this to happen. New Stadium/New HFC/New Attitude From All, too. It's a script made in Hollywood! Many of us saw this before when Fry took some Rod Rust retreads and tied for the Mo' Valley Conference championship his first year. The players took on a new attitude, too, which caused them to win for the first time (ever) while they were at UNT.

New Mean Green Coach ????????? will shock the entire North Texas Metroplex sports community with both him and our new stadium being the Regional Sports Story of the Year as well. We will be SBC champions and go bowling. We'll all be estatic and ready to see more of this strange new phenomena in Denton called..........................winning more than we lose. It's Our Time!

Okay, so:

UNT nearly beats Rice -> Rice beats UH -> UNT might beat Rice

I don't know how sound that logic is. It's like those UNT beat so-and-so who beat so-and-so who lost to so-and-so who ate dinner with so-and-so who washed dishes for Ohio State, ergo, UNT would beat Ohio State.

I think whoever we hire if we hire the right coach , UNT will turn this thing around his first year.

Many thought the same thing of Dodge's first year with 9 defensive players returning. I don't disagree with you if the right guy is hired, but the wrong guy might bring more of the same.

UNT90, you are right about that and I have to confess I was one of those who thought TDodge would do the job, but he didn't.

The key IMHO is for us to hire "an experienced name HFC" who has fought the wars elsewhere and because of his past high level coaching background he will be able to win a some games on his own coaching ability because he will outcoach many of our opponents head football coaches--we have not had that luxury for a very long time.

I think whoever we hire will turn it around his first year. RV will get a coach with experience and I'm sure he will be VERY clear what is expected of him. However, we may not see a huge turnaround like we all want because the players will have to adjust to a new coach and system. But I think we well see a vast improvement. IF we were to land Leavitt, and he kept the current coordinators, I think the learning curve will be far less.

This is also the reason I was hoping we'd make this change at the end of last season. I was hoping we could break in a new coach and move into the new house firing on all cylinders.

I think UofH star QB is out...UofH against our team next year should be a disaster, unless there are major changes...you have a team that beats teams like OSU and you have us...who...well...can win a game or two each year against the likes of WKU....place your bets gentlemen !

High expectations for a new coach, that will have to rebuild; have you looked at what is coming back? Recruiting this year is a disaster, a new coach and staff is not going to be able to salvage it. NT will lose a bunch of players and has little in depth. QB, offensive line and, defensive tackles are major concerns next year. Assuming Thompson fully recovers that gives you one solid QB, the offensive line must be almost completely rebuild, the wrs lose Lott, Jackson but hopefully have healthy Bynes, Strafford joining Carey, Taylor and Lewis. The defense loses it's best players Atkinsson, Jackson and Robertson. There is little depth at any position as NT pays the price of a heavy reliance of jucos.

NT will have a few good players returning in Dunbar, Carey, Chancellor, and Phillips. But once again they will have no experience at QB other than Baine and maybe Dodge if he stays which is questionable. Runnning back will be a strong position, WR should be alright but the offensive line will lose three starters off what has turned out to be a weak unit. All the defensive ends will return but that unfortunately can't be considered a strong point. Linebacker should be ok with Orr, Phillips, Johnson and Herron but there is no depth. The secondary should actually be better assuming Ford and Cook return with McCord, Hill, Downing and Shorter. Next year is going to depend on players such as Cantly, Abbe, and McCoy developing and the injured players all returning.

Unfortunely, I don't see much chance for good season next year no matter who the coach is. I am afraid Dodge inherited a better team than he is leaving.

You are right. UH is not going to be a pretty start for our new stadium.
