Several people have said lately that when Todd Dodge was hired, everyone on GoMeanGreen loved the move.

That's not true, as you can see from a topic posted on Dec. 12, 2006, when his hiring was confirmed by The Ticket:

A majority of members were excited about the hire, but there were several outspoken exceptions:

"It's a sad day when fans of a Div 1A program get excited about hiring a HIGH SCHOOL COACH! Sad, sad, sad." -- meanfbfan

"Its not that anyone disputes Dodge's success at the higschool level. Its the fact that we are a D-1 program and had a couple good candidates that were already head coaches or had spent a considerable amount of time as an assistant to big time programs that had shown interest." -- Eagle1855

"Our hiring of a high school coach proves we've only got I-AA money." -- The Fake Lonnie Finch

"I feel bad for the university for 2 reasons. #1 you will be the laughing stock of the country for a couple of days because no one really know who Dodge is outside of Texas. They will see that you hired some slappy high school coach from the state. Even though we all know he is a good coach, they don't. It will hurt recruiting I PROMISE YOU." -- meanfbfan

This was my take at the time:

I'm excited about the Dodge hire. I was skeptical about getting another high school coach, but Dodge has serious love from DFW and will should bring more attention from the DFW media, especially if his teams play exciting offense. This has the potential to make this school a real choice for Dallas area recruits, as opposed to a last choice.

Two things we wanted at the time of Dodge's hire was more local media attention and more local recruits. He did both, but neither lasted very long. Now that other thing about more wins...not so much.

Hiring a head coach is never a guaranteed increase in wins. I was around for the Jerry Moore, Bob Tyler, Dennis Parker, and Matt Simon eras too...not so much winning there either.

Whoever the new coach becomes he will get a nice new stadium as a recruiting lure. I do think we should be moved to the front of the hiring line asap.

How someone (GreenEddieNT) responded to me on that date which is now living in infamy:

"Well, he's going to have to adjust to coaching at a school that isn't anywhere near the top of the heap in resources like SLC is at the high school level. Then again he almost can't help but be an improvement over a retard like DD. Heck, if we'd hired a chimpanzee from a zoo with no coaching experience(or any experience outside of his cage) it would still be an improvement over DD."

TFLF, September 19, 2010: Hey, GreenEddieNT, bring on the chimpanzee for our last nine games. Maybe the chimp can get us over Darrell Dickey's three-win bar set during the 2006 season; Todd Dodge sure hasn't been able.

      2007-2010 I miss Hooyahs close to campus. Those big ass burritos were great. Crooked crust, Roosters, and Denton Co Hamburgers were my go to places.

      Parking

      We were later than usual. We usually like to arrive 2 hours before kickoff, but we didn't arrive at the NT Blvd exit until 30 minutes before kickoff. If not for the Hub Club entrance, we would have missed the first quarter, too. The Northbound I35E North Texas Blvd exit is a poorly managed part that must be resolved. UNT should have made 100 plastic yard signs that say "Blue Lot for Pass Holders ONLY. No Passes for Sale" and stick 50 of them 5-10 feet apart down the left and right sides of the access road between the NT Blvd offramp and NT Blvd. For every five cars that turned left across the bridge and pulled up to turn into the south blue lot entrance, one went through. After half-time, someone can pull the hypothetical signs out of the ground and save them for the next game. One digital road sign was posted, but it didn't mention the Blue Lot needing already purchased passes. The message it did have about the Orange Lot was contrived and difficult to decipher. I didn't know the Brown Lot existed till this past weekend. It's an easily accessible lot rarely used on most game days. To be candid, I spend too much money as it is to get my complementary Blue Lot pass (I think if MGSF correctly accounted for my Basketball contributions, I should probably have a Black Lot pass). If they oversold the Blue Lot and I could not find a spot, I'd be very frustrated. The many open spots probably also have something to do with a lot of people parking in the gravel/mulch RV spots. I guess there are just not that many people who want to pony up more money than 2 Hub Club tix cost to park an RV. Regarding exiting, the Denton/UNT Police at one point had enough cones to keep you from leaving the southern Blue lot entrance and cutting across the southbound access road traffic to try to get on the Southbound I35E entrance at NT Blvd. They should start doing that again. Yes, I will have to go through the light at McCormick (I think that's the next street) and get on one entrance ramp further, but it will keep traffic moving better. I hate to say it, but we won't have any of these issues again this season, even with a win this weekend at UTSA.
