"Driesbach viewed the Owls’ defensive performance, given the aforementioned circumstances, as a positive. But the challenge facing the Owls on Saturday in Denton will be unique because North Texas has a contrasting offensive philosophy. Last weekend at Clemson, the Mean Green motioned or shifted on 70 of 83 offensive snaps, and that means the Owls will be forced to read and react far more frequently this week as compared to their effort out of their base defense against Texas.

“The spread offense forces you to defend the whole field and formations,” Driesbach said. “Where Texas maybe ran 10 different formations, North Texas ran 41 different formations against Clemson."

Music to my ears! Thank You real Coach Canales.

Mean Green tackles Esteban Santiago and Victor Gill had issues protecting the edges.

Did anyone notice Gill having particular problems in pass blocking?

Oh, and by the way, any comments about this?

For anyone that actually attended the Rice-North Texas game at HRS in 2008, North Texas’ insistence this week that Rice maliciously tacked on touchdowns is equally laughable and despicable. The Owls led 56-20 at halftime, and two of their three second-half scores came via Arnaud Gascon-Nadon (sigh) and Christopher Douglas Pick-6s. The Owls’ 22 offensive snaps totaled only 44 yards in the second half. Clearly they were trying to get the game over as quickly as North Texas, so any revisionist history suggesting otherwise is just silly.

First half Gill was having some problems with his man but was slowing him down enough. Santiago on the other hand was just getting blown by so you didn't notice the few times Gill got handled.

There were other moments though that Gill blew up his guy.

Rice has a thread about this on their board. They are convinced we are delusional

We are. If Rice wanted to, they could have scored over 100. I got no problem with the players using this as motivation, though I think it's silly for anyone else to make the claim.

He did early. Both he and Drake were taking the same rusher and the end was coming in untouched. Thankfully, the blocking assignments were corrected and the defensive ends (Santiago also had a few rushes go by him) were shut down much better for the rest of the game.

Agreed. No runup there. The most inept game I've ever seen on our part, and I've seen a lot of them. Regardless, let's pluck some Owls!
