Highly Rated Dfw Area Radio Personality Is...

That would be WBAP's Mark Davis who during his show this AM told his large radio audience how "stoked" he was about coming up to Fouts Field to see his freshmen daughter's new school's football team play the Rice Owls.

How many of us would tell Mark that he'll be even more "stoked" when he sees what his Freshman daughter's new school is building right behind the Fouts Field Press Box side across the interstate?

GMG!

PS: Like his politics are not and on GMG.com it would be about 50/50, but Mark Davis also fills in for another guy from time to time who is said to have 7 to 9 million daily listeners in his national radio talk show. HINT: That fellow just recently had Elton John sing at his Wedding Reception.

Yep, heard that comment from Mark Davis this morning. Really thought it was great and some wonderful PR for UNT. Mark has a BIG following and has some "sway" with his listeners. maybe another listener or two or three will come to watch the game due to mark Davis' so very nice plug this morning!

If you can, send Mark a nice email reply thanking him for the plug and for coming to the game Saturday.

Any info on said freshman daughter?

Picture, perhaps?

Uh, National Privacy Act on the picture thing unless she has a photo for public domain?

Mark told his entire WBAP radio audience where he was going to be this Saturday, but my bet would be he will want to play "Freshmen Daughter's Dad" and be as incongnito as he can be on Game Day.

If the UNT Athletic Dept. folks read this board any more, the above idea by El Paso Eagle of their contacting him because of what he said on the radio as far as his being at our game would be a good idea if they want to give him a bit of special treatment; but my .02 says he will not want to come up to Denton as a celebrity but as a daddy and just blend in with the crowd.

:argue: BUT HOLD IT JUST ONE GOL' DARN MINUTE HERE: We could get UNT alum Bob Ray Sanders from the local PBS station and the Fort Worth Star Telegram to come up on Game Day, along with Mark Davis, ie, the Liberal vs. the Conservative and they could do the coin toss pre-game, right?:unsure::o (uh....just kiddin'). Bob Ray is a really cool guy and I have run into him a few times in FW at the Mall or elsewhere. He loves to talk about the University of North Texas.

Are we so desperate for media recognition that we have a thread about local talk radio hosts?

"The Dodge Era is the Worst in School History" is he stoked about that?

You a Democrat or somethin' ? :)

Actually, he was coming up to Denton to see his daughter who is a Freshmen and was excited he was going to get to support her new school's football team? Ya' think we might have room for a new fan at Fouts? Most appreciate the free publicity Mark gave us as he spoke about his daughter on the clear channel WBAP-AM (FM) radio. Also, wonder how much a UNT/Rice football game promo spot would have cost UNT if they would have had to pay for what Mark gave us free on "THAT" station?

I mean come on now, Mark Davis brief mention of our UNT/Rice game was a blip on the WBAP radar screen compared to what WBAP listners get from Morning Show personality Hal Jay's constant barrage of TCU, TCU, TCU, TCU, TCU, TCU, TCU, TCU, TCU, TCU!

WORST EVER? Bob Tyler's 1 win career as HFC at UNT was the low water mark for this alum. There have really only been 1 or 2 other low marks with the entire program since I graduated from UNT 34 years ago.:P

The new stadium being built & opening next Fall has been like a giant vitamin booster shot for many of us. I think those we lost the day UNT declared NCAA 1-AA status will start slowly but surely showing up again.

Yes, with Bob Tyler NT actually flirted with NCAA sanctions. Didn't get any, but we were apparently in violation of some of the rules. Worst coaching hire NT ever made by far. The guy had been fired by one of the Mississippi's and had been out of work for at least a year. No one wanted him, but we took him. I think he personally destroyed any of the remaining good will with the faculty that Hayden had build.

+1 since truth is, once again, downvoted in this forum.

JayDub, get your ar$e back down here in Texas. You know you miss us! B)

Dodge: He is more comfortable with his situation than most on this board. Fact is, if he doesn't meet the criteria for numbers of wins this Fall--he's gone and we hire a new coach; but still there are many of us who like those horse races when the one at the back of the pack passes the rest and wins the race at the wire. And then some want his butt out of here just like most did DD after his last 2 losing seasons accompanied by some very poor (compared to the rest of the "lowly" SBC) recruiting classes which (if truth be known & told) didn't help Dodge in his first 2 years at UNT............. BUT.............I KNOW--NO EXCUSES!!!!

You have a valid point but it doesn't hurt. I mean his daughter is coming to NT to get a great education so lets put the sports aside here. And no we aren't desperate but we could use all the pub we can get. If he was talking about his daughter going to say UT or Tech or some big school like that then you wouldn't even care. But because it's UNT, you have to have a negative comment about it. Look you're pissed at the Todd Dodge Era...nobody is happy believe me and if he sucks again this year then guess what, he will be gone. But you sound like a complete tool when you are mixing sports and new students/fans to the Mean Green family.

Is "sports" your euphemism for "politics"?

I guess you missed the part of the original post in which Mark Davis sometimes fills in for a NATIONAL RADIO TALK SHOW. Thats NATIONAL, as in HEARD ACROSS THE UNITED STATES. If he has a good time, he may start giving us publicity regularly, and maybe even the next time he fills in on the NATIONAL RADIO TALK SHOW.

And maybe he is "stoked" about coming to his daughter's first college football game with her. You know, like most dads would be.

Mark Davis also has a lot of political connections in the State. For years he has been the host for the Denton County Lincoln-Reagan Dinner, he is always the host for Senator Jane Nelsons biggest fund raiser (her annual 40th Birthday Party) and I have seen him host many other big political functions. He is a high profile Talk Show Host and his connection can only help.
