Stand Out Players

Dunbar has a great game, and Tune played about as well as anyone could ask. Take away the 2 picks in the endzone, and his performance was almost flawless.

I want to recognize a few players I think haven't received enough credit for their performance's yesterday.

Robertson's pick was big. If he doesn't make that pick, Clemson gets another score. Robertson also made alot of tackles too. He was one of our better tacklers on defense.

Gill did a great job in pass protection. Clemson was not able to get much pressure on Tune from the left side.

Jackson had a big game and made some long gains out of short passes.

Atterberry did a great job punting. No blocks and he pinned Clemson inside the 10 a few times.

Carey had some nice catches, including the TD.

I'm sure I'm missing some players. Anybody you guys want to add?

I felt that the interior D-Line...Atkinson and Jackson...were really good other then that first blown run right up the middle for a TD. Clemson ganed almost all their yards on the outside....the interior run D was stout for the most part.

Not a knock on Tune, who I thought did just fine... But a comment on a type of phrasing that always makes me smile. I paraphrase:

"If you take away the flaws, it was almost flawless". You can't argue with that sort of logic.

Jackson had a big game and made some long gains out of short passes.

i noticed one huge drop. not impressed. Several players stepped up on the big stage but several looked lost, especially the entire defensive backfield. Poor tackling or plain whiffs, and #10, whoosh.

I noticed two other guys making plays (and sure tackles) in the second half : #35 Zach Orr and #22 Ryan Downing

I really think that Orr is going to be a big time player before he's done at NT.

I couldn't believe I was seeing Orr out there contributing against Clemson. I am really looking forward to this guy's career at UNT.

I mentioned it at the watching party and would have to go back and watch the play a couple times more but when they first broke-away and scored on us....did anyone else think that the ref being right in the middle affected our players ability to get at the ball carrier? Notice the ref got laid out.

Regarding the first big play, yes the referee did get mowed over and was out for the remainder of the first half, but more noticable to me on that play was the obvious holding penalty against Roberson. I am not complaining though, because I thought it was a well called game by the officials.

Yes, Stradford made some nice blocks, but he came here from OU with blazing speed and was supposed to be a difference maker as WR. He earns his keep as WR first, and he didn't do a thing.

Santiago was a disappointment to say the least. Too much foot speed from the Clemson DE's.

Santiago was blocking a former number 1 d-line recruit in the nation. The fact that he got beat over and over does not bother me as much as the fact that we did not bring in a U-back or tight end to chip the DE so Santiago could get his hands on him. I saw very little help in this way. As good as he is, he was up against someone way better.

Stradford is a speed guy. The QB needs more than 1.7 seconds in the pocket for a guy like him to stretch the field. Keep an eye on him in the next 2 or 3 games.

He was over powered and there was not much he could do about it, I expect him to have a good bounce back game against Rice.

He was guarding the #1 recruit out of HS. Bowers is a top 15 pick if he goes this year, hes only a jr. Estaban did fine on run plays but Bowers was just to fast, right when the ball was snapped bowers was behind him.

Yeah. I think we'll get a better understanding of where Esteban is this weekend. Going against a future 1st round pick, mostly 1-on-1, will wear anybody down. Esteban is no exception. Of course, this experience was probably really good for him though.

Esteban will be fine, as this was a tough way to start the year. I was a little short in my answer regarding how he did during the game and I am afraid it came out wrong. I'm a big fan of Santiago and think he is better suited to play guard and think someone in the NFL will give him a shot at that position or center. Bowers is a stud and will be a Top 10 pick when he comes out for the draft.

Santiago had his hands full with that dude. Canales ran a couple of plays to help out; shovel pass where Tune got lit up (probably won't try that again) and the screen right, which worked fairly well. I think Canales should have flipped the TE a couple of times to at least make the DE think he was gonna get blocked or to actually chip him. Canales could have used that hard rush to his advantage and didn't. I don't know if he thought that it wouldn't be a good use of manpower or thought Santiago was holding his own. Santiago will do fine against the rest.

I'm a little bothered by the Rice trash talk. I hope our coaches and boys don't think they did a good enough job at Clemson to believe they will roll over Rice. Rice did a nice job against Texas and UNT was somewhat lucky against Clemson. Rice will come to play.

Agreed...and if that added weight is hurting his ability to play tackle with the same effectiveness he did last season I think the option exists to move him to guard and move Tomlinson back to tackle.
