Is Clemson Game A Must Win?

Refresh my memory... What "very bad" Texas Tech team did we beat in the past 15 years?

I seem to recall we beat a Tech team that finished the year with a winning record and beat Texas and Texas A&M, and then a few years later we beat another Tech team that finished with a winning record and beat Oklahoma and Texas A&M.

EDITED because I somehow replied to the wrong post. Sorry, jdennis.

Whoa before I am hung, drawn and quartered inside the walls of the gomeangreen castle. Let me retract my statement in regards to the Tech wins. They were not bad. Well in their eyes they were bad enough to fire their coach but in real-world terms they were pretty good.

My apologies to all.

Disagree Quoner.....I haven't asked this question. About Rice? Of course and I do believe it is a must win. This is why I will need to see the Rice game this weekend to see how they performed. One can easily state that we need to be competitive in this game and throw some shocker plays out there for the masses to see. People need to see us competitive but to win against an established team like Clemson when TCU barely closed them out last year is a miracle. Rice = Must Win or else we won't compete well against Army (on their turf). Getting blown out by Clemson then beaten by Rice would destroy the morale of the team and make it vastly tougher for them to compete with ease the remainder of the season. I have faith in Tune (I am a Thompson fan though) in that he did his best against Bama last year and gave Troy all he had as well. This year will see a large increase in Deep Ball attempts due to a healthy and able receiver core...and a QB who can put it down-field.

Sometimes the board just sort of works out perfectly for me. Thank you.

If TD doesn't win this game he should be fired on the spot and forced to walk home through the Deep South with a rainbow patterned Obama t-shirt...

wait...this doesn't work the same way for football, does it? Huge one game stretch? No?

Crap...

Too late. If you were a REAL supporter, you'd already have invited that other guy in Houston over to watch the game on Saturday. WHERE'S THE SUPPORT?!?!?

(I still heart you)

I sure hope like hell we go in there with the attitude of winning this game! Play the full 60 minutes and never give up regardless of the score.

We need this win! With conference realignment the hot topic and UNT no where to be found in the discussions, we need this win to make people turn around and look at us. Look at our new stadium and what we have accomplished over the last 6 years as to upgrading our facilities.

Besides, we have already used up all our excuses over the last 6 to 10 years. We have already used up all our chances of playing OOC games close.

We need to win. Close isn't good enough anymore. That was last year and so on and so on.

Just my opinion.

You follow NCAA Football much? Clemson won their division in the ACC last year and return one heck of a team and QB, and are playing at one of the most storied stadiums in the country. TCU beat them at their place last year 14-10 and that was considered one of the reasons they got a BCS bid. That TCU team was loaded--we aren't. Look, we are going there for one reason only--to pay for the other non-revenue sports. Don't get me wrong, I hate that fact, but that is the real world UNT lives in right now. If this game is even competitive that will be gravy. Watch the gameplan--better yet, look back to all our games against top notch BCS teams over the last 15 years. This will be a don't-get-hurt game, probably similar to a Dickey-esque hand-off fest and we will be ready for the real season, which starts next week. TFLF is right about Rice and Army. If we can't beat one of those two, then it really isn't meant to be for TDodge at this level. When we get back to being competitive with SBC teams (not to mention actually making extra points regularly), then we can talk about games like this being winnable.
