When the Big12 decides it's ready for a title game and ready to add another school, BYU is the obvious choice. They were mentioned as possible replacements during the UT-PAC10 fiasco. There's more going on here than BYU wanting to spread the Mormon faith. They'll do anything they can to trump the Utes.

From everything I've seen, I think they are "leaning" toward making a play for Houston, but I am not convinced that Houston would accept. If BYU had stayed, I think they would have taken a long hard look at it, but without BYU, what's the point? Hmm. Lots to ponder.

The MWC without Utah and BYU but adding Nevada, Fresno, and possibly Utah St is bascially a retro WAC again. I agree Houston would have looked hard at the MWC with BYU in it but not so much without. Who would TCU support: UH, Smut, UTEP, us?

Houston will not join the MWC without BYU. TCU has to be looking for the exit. TCU may very well go back to CUSA. I would enjoy a home in the MWC playing the Nevada schools, the Colorado schools, SDSU, WY, NM and Fresno. Maybe we can join with La Tech to create an Eastern swing.

2 questions this whole MWC reshuffling has left me a bit confused?............

1. why is utah st. suddenly the sweetheart of the Mountain West. I know they were invited but decided to decline the offer.

2. why is bYu leaving behind a conference they helped build?

3. they already had a good league why do all of this? why not just add boise and fresno and call it good?

I think it's because Missouri wanted to go to the Big 10....oh, wait.

Why would TCU want to jump ship unless it is something better? The MWC hasn't dropped as much as some people are making out to be. Yes losing Utah and BYU is very big but they have added Boise State, Fresno State, and Nevada. That is not shabby at all and the MWC is still the best conference after the BCS.

As for NT...is there really ANY chance at all that the MWC would consider us?

BYU isn't going independent. I think its safe to assume that the MWC let the BYU pick which WAC schools it wanted to add to keep them in the Mountain West. The MWC will go to 12 and BYU will make more money because of a championship game, new tv deal, and better access to the BCS.

At any rate BYU has to sign an agreement with the WAC by Wednesday or the deal expires. BYU has no reason to wait for the 11th hour on this deal, if they were going Indy they would have announced already.

At least I was right about BYU not signing with the WAC.

I would love to see the MWC take Hawaii and Utah State to fill the BYU hole and kill the WAC.

I do not see Hawaii being considered; otherwise, Hawaii wouldn't be spending so much time looking at going indy or talking to the Big West. Utah St. has a very slim chance to be considered and I think they're likely out of the running at this point.

From the Utah State board (they are not very hopeful of a MWC invite now since BYU is leaving)...

"Nothing is ironed out as far as C-USA (and MWC meetings), and as I said, the next meeting doesn't even have a firm date. But I have a life long friend in a good position with the MWC that tells me, amongst other things, that there is not another WAC team that the MWC shows any real interest in. All talks now are leading in other directions, mainly Texas."[/i]

Which makes sense (Texas). Where are the recruits and TVs? Tcu wants some easy trips. They want access to Houston. The western teams want to recruit down here.

It has everything to do with Utah going into the PAC10,getting a guaranteed cool $10million a year just on TV deals, and an auto bid to a BCS bowl. BYU was left in the dust by their hated rival and are now trying to position themselves in a Notre Lame type spot for BCS acknowledgment. Also, they think they can make way more money televising their own games. The TV money thing is probably true, but a BCS exception won't happen, IMO.

As for Utah St, I think it was just the MWC's way of punching the WAC in the gut, saying you're not going to corner the Utah market taking both the Cougs & the Ags. I guess no one realized Utah State had their heads shoved way up BYU's ass.

baylor will never let byu in. besides, byu does want to use its own tv network, similar to texas, for more exposure for its university and faith.

I say RV should call Tom Holmoe/BYU and give them a long series of home and home games, 10 or so years worth. BYU's Mormonites swarm footbal stadiums the same way Nebraska Bugeaters do.

You want sell out crowds, national exposure and people buying Mean Green corndogs from the concession stands, get BYU's football Cougars into your stadium as fast and often as you can, buttwheel!

Do it! Do it, now, mister! Strike while the iron is hot!

Let's not sit on our hands and twiddle our thumbs (for such would tickle the nether-regions). A long term deal with BYU puts us in the headlines while the headlines are hot with the news.

Jumping Jiminy Cricket on a flash grenade popsicle stick! Why am I the one that always has to come up with the great ideas, then the athletic department lags behind for years before they catch on? Just do as I say AND DO IT NOW!

EXHIBITS

A 100% college experienced coaching staff - REQUESTED December 2006, GRANTED February 2010

A damn H-Back like Tulsa has with Charles Clay to utilized Micah Mosley-type players - REQUESTED Fall 2009, GRANTED this season, mister!

Scheduling winnable games for early out of conference games - REQUESTED Fall 2006, GRANTED Fall 2009

A quarterback big enough to see over the line of scrimmage - REQUESTED Fall 2009, GRANTED this season, mister!

I expect to have an announcement of the home and homes with BYU no later than 72 hours from now! MOVE, MOVE, MOVE! Coach Canales is a Mormon. Have him put the call into Holmoe personally! Do it! Do it now! Do it YESTERDAY!

$$$.. BYU and UTAH were both solid teams...but the real thing is the loss of the market. BYU and UTAH had followings and ratings. The league has now dropped a lot in exposure. Boise State and TCU are both excellent football teams now, but there is no real reason to believe they will be 10 years from now. BYU has the best program even if TCU and Boise currently have much better teams.

He who hesitates loses. A lesson we seemed to have not learned forever at UNT--except for maybe now at this time in our history?

Seems we hesitated a bit with a new football stadium while we were all having a rip-roaring time on that Mean Green Roller Coaster Ride of the past 30 years of trying to find our athletic identity, ya' think? Texas & DFW Mormons would buy enough tickets for a UNT/BYU game at our new stadium to probably fund our Womens' Softball program for a fiscal year; of course, we could always bring in Stephen F. Austin 'Jacks & wonder why they didn't bring more fans, too.

The great thing about our AD, one Rick Villarreal, is that most of the ideas many of us come up with on GMG.com, he's already thought of staying one step ahead of the rest of us! I would bet the same on this thing with BYU.

Actually Baylor and BYU get along nicely. When the Big 12 was blowing up, BYU was said to be Baylor's sponsor to join the MWC while TCU was opposed.

I bet a $10million guarantee in TV contracts (which I think Big12 schools are supposed to get with the new deal) from teh Big12 would squash the thought of BYU's own sports channel.

Also, with the special BYU television station, think of all the people around the world that would be exposed to UNT football. Fiji. Somoa. Other small islands. We'd be reaching new viewers off the continent, man! We'd be like the New York Yankees, Dallas Cowboys, and Manchester United all rolled up into one!

It's a marketing coup de tat, yo! Get on the phone and do it now, RV! Pacific Islanders from around the globe need Mean Green football!

We could even make some inroads into Euless Trinity and all of their Fijan players and work our way up to a Mean Green Haka:

Baylor has absolutley zero pull on this. If Texas and Oklahoma want BYU, then it is done. Texas know that they are stuck with Baylor for the time being, but they have scheduled three games with BYU over the course of the next 5 years. I think that Texas knew that BYU was most likely going to do this and they scheduled them as a reward for going indy. BYU's decision knocks the MWC out of AQ possibliity, so the Baylor's of the world can continue to suck off the teat of the BCS teams that actually do something. And Texas wants to strongly consider going indy in football only, too. If BYU is successful, this is something they will look at doing, as well. If not, then BYU joins the Big 12-2 in a few years.

My money is on BYU eventually coming over here to play in a conference with the remaining Big XII teams.

Yeah. Yeah.

Hell yeah! Let's do all of that and a bag of chips for the Mormonizers! (Hey, when that day comes, someone show me the plug to their television cameras from their TV broadcast booth at Salt Lake City Southwest at the Mean Green Village, will ya')? :whistling1:

TrulyGreen!

PS: So would all this also mean that we have the "r" word, ie, a "rivalry" a-goin' on here; you know, with the home & home thing and all? Jeez, I may convert over myself except I don't have a bicycle, a short sleeve white dress shirt with clip-on tie and I do like an occassional cocktail from time to time. Never mind...

Yeah. Yeah.

No $$ mentioned but this was their objective - to get on National TV and not have to share the revenue with the MWCers. So, what next for the MWC, WAC, TCU, UNT, et al? More fun to come!
