If it happens who would the MWC add? What does the WAC gain from this, another Denver?

Heh!

Andy Katz is tweeting that the MWC has already tried to get Fresno and Nevada, but they both turned them down. $5m leaving the conference clause if they joined might have been an obstacle. Still, that's a bit of a blow to the crotch of the MWC, IMO.

Even a weakened MWC is a huge step up from the Belt and with TCU as a travel partner/natural rival, I'd jump at an opportunity to join. (If said opportunity ever was available  )

Once Boise State left, the remaining WAC members -- Fresno State, Louisiana Tech, New Mexico State, San Jose State, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada and Utah State -- signed a $5 million buyout agreement that would be assessed to any member that left the conference within the next five years. The schools took that move to keep other members from following the Broncos to the MWC.

So if a slot in CUSA opens up, it costs La Tech $5 exit fees plus more money in entrance fees to jump to where they really want to be? That doesn't make a lot of sense that they would agree to that.

Going to the MWC would be a great move for UNT...I would hope RV, et al are on top of this. Much rather be assoc with TCU than SMU.

If this is true then this is good news for the WAC. BYU is good in Baseball and Basketball and riding bikes with white shirts and black ties.

I wonder if BYU's cycling team is nationally ranked? Is there a Collegiate cycling governing body?

Admittedly the MWC would be a better situation but I'd want to see a guarantee that TCU stays (saving an invite from the Big 12-2).

With Utah and Brigham Young gone I'm thinking that the Mountain West has lost a lot of its allure for TCU. With less than stellar marquis names, and the distance involved, it wouldn't surprise me to see the Frogs receptive to CUSA once again.

Didn't Boise State just join the MWC? Football-wise, adding them makes up for the loss of Utah and (possibly) BYU combined.

I don't know about that. That's 2 quality programs lost and not just in football.

I agree with the non-football sports.

Utah & BYU are both strong programs top to bottom, and Utah has been a BCS buster lately, but as far as football goes, replacing Utah and (speculating) BYU with Boise St. is a wash IMO.

If BYU leaves, AFA may follow. Boise can still back out of MWC and stay in WAC.

Not much left of MWC then.

TCU will try to get Big East. And I think whats left of MWC and WAC will join up under the WAC...getting away from Versus.

Not sure, but I think we can reasonably assume BYU is not going to have a problem with the anti-doping agencies investigating cycling.

Rumor now is Boise may back out of the MWC deal and return to the WAC...

How would this impact the MWC if both BYU and Boise left? Unfortunately, I don't think this helps UNT's efforts to move up. If the MWC implodes then several of these schools could look to CUSA for entry (TCU?, New Mexico, AF, CSU?). A loss of a non-BCS conference will hurt supply and demand for us.
