EXERPT

UNT has been working for years to put together the kind of receiving corps that will make its spread offense effective.

It's been a gradual process, but there is reason to believe this year's crew will be the most balanced UNT has put together in the Dodge era.

UNT has a very nice group of Receivers back and the addition of Tyler Stradford, the position change for Riley Dodge, the emergence of Bennie Jones and Willie Taylor, and new recruits Chris Bynes and Brelan Chancellor should give fans a reason to be optimistic. It will also help to have the presence of Lance Dunbar, and a QB who can make all of the throws. Let's not forget that the TE position will have some catches as well in Canales' offense. Look for big offensive numbers to come out of Denton this fall.

I hope Chancellor redshirts, as do most of our true freshmen. That is how you build depth in your program.

I see Stradford, Jackson, Carey, Outlaw, Johnson, Lott, Jones, Lewis, Bynes and Dodge rotating out this year and can't really point out a weakness in this group. Love the depth and the confidence it, along with Dunbar, will provide our QB. And that's not even taking in to account Mosley and the new TE's.

Don't we go into every season praising our recievers or talking about how great that group is going to be? Then about mid-season we realize that they can't seperate from the defense so screens and crossing patterns is all we can complete.

You are correct, however Conroy Hines > Clayton George.

The good thing is that there should be real competition for playing time. NT returns all four starters: Lewis, Jackson, Outlaw and Carey. Add to that Lott who has started in the past, Stradford who may be the best of the bunch, Dodge with I think excellent potential at receiver, and Bynes who the coaching staff wanted despite having a loaded squad at the wr position. There are also two more lettermen in Taylor and Johnson. With a lot more tight end and H back sets, there will not be as many minutes available at wr.,

It is very difficult to name a starting three, my guess would be Stradford, Jackson and Carey. The battle for the fourth spot in 4 receiver sets should be close between Lewis, Outlaw, Dodge and Bynes. This group has scary potential with a lot better speed than the NT norm. There may be better receivers in the Belt, but I doubt anyone can match NT' s depth. Jackson was an all conference receiver last year and he could have plenty of NT company this year. Dunbar should certainly keep defenses honest. The biggest question is can Tune or Thompson turn into the kind of QB that can elevate this receiver group.

Good points throughout your post, and I agree whole-heartedly with your starting three. However, I don't see Dodge competing for that last outside spot. I imagine he'll be used primarily in the slot, so he'll probably back up Jackson and/or Carey.

Cannales > Ford also.....

This. He knows how to get guys in the right position to be able to run after the catch. That was the biggest thing I saw from watching tape of his offenses. Guys will run free and his QB will find them. The days of 5 yards curls and outs are over....

Ordinarily I would have to agree. But, like one old, seasoned coach once said, "you have to put your best players on the field to win".

I would agree and that is why I stated I hope "most of our true freshmen." There are a few that could contribute immediately. Regarding Chancellor, I just don't see the point in burning a year mainly sitting on the bench with the amount of depth in front of him. Now if he is clearly one of our top four, then by all means put him on the field.

And, yes, Rucker is unfortunately gone.
