In the scheme of things this is not so atypical of Dez. he's a goofball and dances, at times, to his own drumbeat. That being said, the media will have a field day over this and the blogs will go nuts...as such it will become a big deal. See, we are even posting about it here on GMG.com because it's the Dallas Cowboys after all. In the end, Dez needs to step up and play the rookie role with a smile on his face. There have been plenty of players that have come before him that have had to endure this "it's just the boys having fun" hazing of a rookie. If he figures it out quickly it will die a quick death in the papers and all will be well, if he acts like a clown, it will linger and could become a clubhouse "issue". I think someone with a bit more "brainpower" than Dez will get him aside and let him know that it's just part of the game and he needs to play along.

I'll bet Dez will be carrying pads as soon as today...if the kid is even half-way smart that is.....

I've gone back and forth on this.

On the one hand, Roy Williams has none NOTHING since coming here and has been more negative than positive. I would have preferred he come into camp with his head down ready to work and live up to his hype instead of taking up the cause of putting a rookie in his place. So Dez is probably thinking, "who the hell does he think he is? I'm trying to take his job!"

On the other hand, Dez needs to realize his place as a rookie and not put himself above the rest of the team. He's a rookie, Heisman trophy winners even get treated like a rookie. What you did (or didn't do) in college doesn't matter....especially to vets.

I just wish it would have been Brady James, or Whitten or Leonard Davis that would have told him to carry their pads.

I wonder what Dez would have said then.

The bottom line is he's a rookie and if he wants to alienate the whole team, keep acting like that. It's not a big deal but veterans don't like to be shown up.....especially by a rookie.

That's where we need a Darren Woodson. As soon as they started contact, he would have taken care of Dez's attitude the first time he ran across the middle....

I think it's specifically because he's trying to take his job that this is an issue. Roy Williams probably tried to "punk" him because the kid is blowing it up out there and the writing is on the wall. Dez probably balked at carrying the shoulder pads because he feels like Williams is "old news".

Dez should carry Williams's shoulder pads in training camp.

After all, Williams will be lucky to carry Dez's jock by the end of the season.

I hope the Cowboys never draft or trade for anyone named Roy Williams again.
