An article on youth sports in today's (7/21/10) "Wall Street Journal" quotes the NCAA as saying, "Only about 3% to 6% of high school basketball, football, baseball and soccer players make it to a college team. Only 2% of high school athletes are awarded college athletic scholarships. Far more money is available for academic scholarships. And only 1% to 9% of college athletes make it to the pros."

Pretty slim odds. Says a good deal about the level of skills those athletes that do make it to the college sports scene possess, but also says that one should concentrate on their studies as well if they want a college scholarship.

When you narrow it down, the odds of a college scholarship are pretty small and then, even if you get a college scholarship, the odds of making it to the pros is minuscule at best.
