Looks like KRAM was right about Houston. As far as going 0-2, that is a possibility whoever we play in the first two games. The only way to avoid that, is not lose more than once within the first two weeks. Simple.

Good call KRAM

We really need Houston. That would be a great opener.

It sounds like Houston for Sept 10 is a done deal, it's the game before they are working on. Vito says we could open at home with an FCS school Sept 3 then host UH the second week too. Otherwise we open on the road with an "opportunity" game (Tenn, OU, or Bama?) Sept 3.

I always like the Houston game but would like to also get a game we can win early in the season.

Seems like a service academy would be best. 10 year of Sept.11. New Stadium. Service Academy. Would be huge.

If we're afraid to schedule a FCS team (SFA, Texas State, etc) to open the stadium before our Sept. 10th game with Houston, we need to fold our tent and slink quietly out of town in the dark of night. Full house for the opener vs a FCS team. Full house for our 1-0 team vs Houston the following week. Two good crowds should negate the need for the typicial "opportunity game" road opener. It's time to think positive and not dwell on worst case scenarios and what ifs.

Let's be careful what we wish for. It took SMU EVERYTHING they had to beat SFA the first game of last season.

Also, for those advocating Texas State as an opponent, they haven't exactly laid down for their D1 opponents, such as Baylor, whom they have played recently. Not that we should dismiss playing them or any other FCS school because they might win. Many FBS teams have found out the hard way that it's hard to guarantee a win by scheduling a perceived weaker opponent, of their level or FCS. Honestly, nobody should dismiss the possibility of us beating Clemson in their season (and home) opener. It's only the American spirit to root for the underdog, it's up to those scheduling to find worthy, but beatable opponents.

Home opener with Houston is a good a biscuits and chocolate gravy. Everyone who says otherwise is a carpetbagging yankee who thinks there is no other gravy but brown and that it is only served at dinner. Lost and confused. Lost and confused.

Come on down, Cougars, and take your whipping from Señor Canales!
