Radio announcer’s streak snapped

Hank Dickenson, the play-by-play announcer for men’s basketball road games, did not make the Mean Green’s loss at Louisiana-Lafayette on Monday night because of travel difficulties.

His absence snapped a personal streak of 113 consecutive road games, dating back to the 1995-96 season.

Dickenson, whose day job is the senior associate athletic director for external affairs, was on a Delta flight that was supposed to leave the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport for Lafayette at 1 p.m.

Mechanical troubles delayed the flight until 4:30 p.m., when weather forced it to be canceled. As a result, Dickenson (along with a certain beat writer) was stranded at D/FW.

Dickenson scrambled to make sure Mean Green fans still were able to hear a broadcast. KWRD-FM 100.7 and KNTU-FM 88.1 aired the call of the Ragin’ Cajuns’ radio crew.
