The M's sent Lee and reliever Mark Lowe to Texas for first baseman Justin Smoak and minor leaguers Blake Beavan, Josh Lueke and Matthew Lawson.

The Mariners will also send $2.5 million to the Rangers to subsidize the $4 million still owed to Lee. Texas has financial limitations due to bankruptcy hearings associated with the sale of the team. There has been speculation the Rangers -- despite leading the AL West -- would not be able to add weapons for the stretch run.

Now we just have to keep him past this year...

Well, we know they won the All-Star game race..... Do you trade 16 starts for a potential 20 years of greatness. Atlanta helped us out years ago. I have the same feeling agian. The plan was working, but one thing I fear, they all started listening to the press. This is the same Press that unamiously scolded them for not making more trades and changes in the off-season.

I was at the first home game the Rangers ever played, so I have been a fan from day one. I was for this plan, but now we will never know. However, we can see if the changes at catcher, and moving major projects for 16 more starts gets the Rangers in the promised land. I would have thrown my dice with the team three weeks ago.

Only time will tell....somewhere I feer the Angels or even the A's might be listening1

The Rangers did not break the bank to get Lee. Did we give a few good prospects? Yes but when you have a top 5 farm system and still manage to keep all of your studs then a deal like this is worth the risk. I just think this was just a bad 4 games for Texas and it came at the right time with the all star break here. Baltimore was playing out of their minds this weekend and things just were not going Texas' way. Lee threw a CG and only 95 pitches but gave up 6 runs. I think Lee is going to help this team and I still think Texas will win the West. They won't run away with it but they will win it.

Smoak was a stud prospect.

The Rangers may not really have gotten an ace. That remains to be seen. Only twice previously in his career has Cliff Lee had seasons approaching ace status. Very efficient, but very hittable.
