First off, Benson made it seem likely that the WAC will be an 8 team league for the 2011 season.  When he talked about potential candidates he mentioned Texas State and UT San Antonio when discussing Texas teams.  UNT had to be brought up by the radio host and then he included them in the convo.  He also made a point to include Sac State when the host mentioned Davis and Poly.  He also downplayed Montana by saying that they really aren't in the WAC footprint.

Benson was on ESPN radio and UNT was not the hot topic. I think the Texas Trio described by the Bleacher report blog sounds solid but has UNT already lost out.

We had a hell of a run.

Hey, Texas State....

YOU. ARE. AN. FCS. SCHOOL.

Any talk about you being invited to ANY FBS conference is ridiculous. The WAC will aggressively pursue UNT, Arkansas State, and the Louisiana-City universities before they even think of considering dipping down to FCS.

I thought nothing was more of an agonizing crotch kick than conference realignment and "North Texas to the WAC?" talk.

Then I discovered non-NT fans stopping by to rehash the conference realignment and "North Texas to the WAC?" talk.

It's like getting kicked in the crotch with a rocket-powered spike heel.

Wow didn't think that was going to hit a nerve. Just asked a question.

unt may have already told the wac no thanks again before they even asked. a denton blog reporter said this a couple days ago:

First off, multiple UNT officials, including interim president Lane Rawlins, said that UNT has not been contacted by the WAC -- at least not yet. The more people I talk to, the more I believe UNT is going to stay where it is in the Sun Belt unless CUSA comes calling.

Well like I said It would be nice to see TXST and UNT in the same conference. I hope we (TXST) are invited to the WAC and if we are on of the first teams I hope to see in San Marcos is UNT. I know that if we had a chance to play in Denton we would bring 5-6K to the game. Ask the Baylor, Rice and TCU fans we Bobcats show up in force to TX FBS games.

I just talked to some high level officials at UNT. We're closing the school, as of Monday......because some jackass on a sports message board posted comments from another sports message board jackass, about us being left behind.

It's been nice. UNT 1890-2010.

This post made me laugh so hard my roommate had to ask what was so funny at 11:30 at night. :D

I just love how these Texas schools are all of a suddden in the WAC's footprint yet Montana is not.

Also love how all of those in favor of us moving to the WAC use the reason that the Sun Belt is just a bunch of schools recently removed from D1AA status yet are excited about the WAC commissioner mentioning us in the same breath as TSU-SM (D1AA), UTSA (haven't played a game), Sac State (D1AA), Cal-Davis (D1AA) and Cal Poly (D1AA). Hell, let's jut rejoin the Southland and save the money of the move.
