Im tired of the talk in the football forum. So I want to know what bball fans have to say. I want to play Western Kentucky over anyone in the WAC. Where does the WAC even play their conf. tourney?

New Orleans is gone and Denver should be too. I say we add one to replace Denver.

The WAC usually has a rotating tournament between schools, but there is talk of having it in Vegas(tho that's where the MWC has there's too, so not sure if that'd work out). The WAC is a better roundball league top to bottom - but again travel will kill us in it. WKU has more traadition than anyone in the WAC, but they have some good basketball programs, especially Utah State.

It's not just talk....the next two WAC tournaments are in Vegas. (at The Orleans Arena---seats 9,500). They didn't rotate locations much....usually it was in Reno. But I do remember it being in Las Cruces one year.

It has also been in Fresno.

WAC is slightly better overall. I'll put USU over WKU for the immediate future, NMSU also has some great squads. I don't know what ever happened to Fresno's run...beautiful arena and haven't been able to win ever since they got it.

One other thing I don't like about the WAC: In some places...you deal with altitude adjustments.....which can be an advantage for the home team.

I just cannot, for the life of me, see whay UNT would consider the WAC. Way too many issues with travel, game times, etc. Hate that west coast time!

Anyone who doesn't believe it hasn't been paying attention to Denver's home/away splits.

Why are game times an issue?? If the WAC plays at 7PM local time, 10pm east coast time, then there is no competition on television. The WAC owns the national college football audience at that time slot.

This isn't the 1970s where the time difference was a huge deal. Nobody reads newspapers, television sports news coverage is 24/7... I just don't get the issue with the time.

As for travel, is it really any worse than what we have now? Is the marginal cost of flying and busing to Palm Beach, Miami, Mobile, Montgomery, and Murfeesboro that much higher than flying to Fresno, Reno, Logan, Las Cruces, and San Jose?

let's just for arguments sake say it costs $5k more to charter the flight to each location. Is $20k more per year in travel worth giving up the extra $300k we'd get in conference revenue? OK multiply that by the 11 sports, it costs us $240k more per year. We still come out on top and we get a bigger bowl payout if we qualify.

I am pretty sure Hawaii is MUCH farther away than Miami.

And was conveniently left out of his post.

Also, did USU, NMSU, Idaho, etc... really help out with our home attendance when they were in the SBC? Seems to me that the SBC is more regionally aligned, more stable and has better bowl tie-in's than the present day WAC.

Fun with geography:

It's a longer trip from Denton to Honolulu than it is to La Paz, Bolivia.

We could fly to any country in North or Central America and cover less distance than what we'd travel to fly to Fresno State.

The difference between driving to Fresno State and driving to Guatemala from Denton is less than the driving distance between North Texas and ULM.

Also many of the sports play more than 4 away conference games, so you can't just say multiply by 4 for each sport.

They are just trying to keep the conference afloat, why else would Montana be considered? They are in survival mode.

The SunBelt is also in survival mode if having to add FCS teams is the criteria. The SBC can only reload with moveups like UTSA, Tx State, et al. There is no SBC-type conference below to pull FBS teams from like the WAC can from the SunBelt.

Since no one was plucked from the Sun Belt, how is the conference in survival mode?

Schools like ULM and ULL could be forced to drop levels due to financial strain. Or when existing SBC teams do start to move up (say UNT, Muts, FAU?) the only replacements will have to come from the FCS level, as they always have.

The SBC is not at a minimum member number now like the WAC is but it could happen quick. And No, La Tech will end football before they agree to join the SBC.

No offense NT80, but you don't exactly have the best track record when it some to league re-alignments and what schools will or will not do. I'm not saying LA Tech will come back to the Belt, but I don't think anything can be labeled impossible these days.

Such as? Let's see the list of realignment consultant's jobs you've had. :whip:

Notice, I never ever say anything will or won't happen with league realignments. You on the other hand proclaimed Texas would goto the the Pac-10 about 29 times(at least), and that all efforts to get them to stay were for show, etc, etc.

Look, I'm not saying it was silly to think that way, but you dancing on the grave of the Big XII should make you a bit more cautious with saying when a league is dead, or when a school will or won't move.

Wow, glad someone was counting along with me.

I'll be sure and consider your "never say anything" policy next time Texas gets a wild hair. I should have remembered the old saying: "You mess with the Bull, you'll get the Horn!"
