Well, while my thoughts and prayers still go out to the Brown family, it appears that early reports were a bit misleading with this story. I cannot imagine how this must be to handle by Chief Brown. Being the police chief of Dallas and having your son kill a cop has got to be very very challenging to handle. I would not be surprised if Chief Brown took a leave of absence and maybe never returned as Dallas Police Chief. How do you command a police force when your son was a cop killer?

Maybe Emmitt and/or Rudy could give us some better perspective on this. Man, I pray for all the victims of this horrible situation, including the Brown family. Everyone involved needs our prayers. Please pray for all the families involved in this horrible situation.

With a terrifying reputation for being a strict disciplinarian?

I want to know where the son got the AK47. Criminals follow the path of least resistance. Could he have stolen this gun from Dad's house? Completely within the realm of possibility.

Although the Chief would have done nothing wrong, the public perception that would come with having your son kill another officer with a gun that was issued to you would be devasting. Hopefully this is not the case.

This is all speculation, and hopefully Emmitt knows better than to speculate about his boss on a public forum.

A lot of g's have AK's. They call them choppas because they chop bodies up.

Trust me if dude had an AK he was involved in a lot more than just simple gun possession leading up to this.

While many departments allow officers to carry rifles and some even issue them. I don't know of any departments that issue AKs. AR-15s are the most popular patrol rifle. If the media have correctly identified the weapon used as an AK clone then it is almost certainly not an issued weapon. This doesn't automatically remove the possibility that he got the weapon from his father, just that it wasn't a DPD issued weapon.

You are correct, sir. My gun ignorance is on full display. Let's hope the media has it right for a change.

Very bad update. Apparently Chief Humphries of Lancaster PD called Chief Brown of Dallas PD at 1030 AM on Sunday after police responded to Brown Jr. walking around naked in the apartment complex pool. Brown Jr. was not arrested after that phone call. Report by KLIF this afternoon.

This could get very ugly. Lupe Valdez needs to step aside and let the Texas Rangers handle this mess.

Also this from chl 8:

notice the reaction when they ask the PR officer why contact wasn't made with Brown Jr. Hmmmm.

Lancaster Chief admits that he called Chief Brown at home as a courtesy after his officers responded to a domestic dispute. Made the admission on FOX news. Says his officers did not have probable cause to arrest Jr.

Question: Why was the Lancaster Police Cheif involved in this on a Sunday, Fathers Day at that, if his officers were simply doing their job and there was no favoritism? If that is the case, there would be no need to notify the police chief at his home on Fathers Day to let him know that you were just doing your job.

Maybe it is an innocent coincidence, but I am not a believer in coincidences.

It would be interesting to know what time the Lancaster Chief made the call to Chief Brown as opposed to the time the officers were at the scene.

Something really smells on this whole deal. Lancaster PD PR officer says there was no police contact with Jr., yet they grugingly release the in car video and there is contact with Jr.
