Talk about it in ISU Confidential 2.0

A sports media columnist in Washington has reported - via Twitter - that Iowa State and three other Big 12 members are in discussions with the Big East Conference.

Jim Williams of the Washington Examiner "confirmed" the information Thursday evening, saying that ISU, Kansas, Kansas State and Missouri are starting talks with the Big East. If that conference retained all of its current members through the evolving shake-up and expanded by four schools, it would grow to a 20-school conference for basketball and to 12 schools for football.

A number of the Big East basketball schools are already Midwest in nature, such as DePaul, Marquette, Cincinnati and Notre Dame. The Big East is already far flung, stretching from South Florida to Syracuse.

This is the first report of any dialogue between Iowa State and an existing BCS-level college conference.

I'm sure Iowa State and Kansas would love to join a national basketball powerhouse conference, plus go east vs. west. MWC would probably be their second choice, followed by trying to lure midwestern teams perhaps into a new conference. CUSA would be last resort for them.
