New facilities are school's selling point

DENTON – North Texas believes its new facilities, including a $78 million stadium in the works, make it an attractive candidate should realignment offer a change in affliliation, athletic director Rick Villarreal said.

UNT, a member of the Sun Belt Conference, has built a softball field and a soccer stadium since it was considered for a spot in Conference USA in 2005, and broke ground in November for the football stadium, which will seat about 30,000.

"I believe we have positioned our program so that we would be an asset to any conference with which we are associated," Villarreal said.
