"We want to play at the highest level and win at the highest level," athletic director Steve Orsini said in a statement. "Conference USA has been very good for SMU, but as we monitor conference realignments, we know there may be new opportunities for our program. As a department and as an Athletic Director, our duty is to do what's best for SMU. We certainly believe that SMU, with its academics, media market, facilities and overall commitment to athletics, would be an asset to any league. We're excited about the future of Mustang Athletics."

What does he know? Our bloggers at the Mean Green Athletics website says we should just sit and wait.

Why change tradition?

Wouldn't it be funny if everything fell apart and the Pac !0 ended up stuck with Colorado? Little chance of that happening, but it would be freaking terrific.

Bwahahhaa...SMU's media market? What's that, Highland Park and University Park? No one in the DFW DMA gives a rat's a** about SMU. I think SMU posters complain about their lack of coverage in the DMN more than we do. I always have to laugh when I hear the notion that SMU "covers the Dallas media market."

While there are some advantages to being proactive I think SMU should take care with the way the officially announce their intentions. It’s one thing to say something to the effect of “we would naturally take a look if the right opportunity came our way…….” And a totally different issue if you come off as arrogant and implying you’re too good for where you’re at. But hey, let the Pony brass tick off enough of the C-USA schools so when they try to put a stop to a UNT invite to C-USA they are told to shut-up!
