So if Tune is selected the starting QB and Thompson doesn't play next year, they can redshirt him as a sophomore, so he still has three years of eligibility left.

That might have been a possibility if Riley had not changed positions. Even if Tune gets the starting nod, the likelihood of his being able to play all four quarters of 12 (or 13 ) games is not very high. Thompson will surely see the field in 2010.
