I'm curious to see who stays/comes to Denton with Coach D-Rob as far as staff and assistants.
A few CSU fans mentioned some of his assistants may be on the list as his replacement. Another source says search firm is going outside for interviews...
Internally you could look at Kwanza Johnson with his connection to Robinson and 20+ years as an assistant or Steve Payne who has been a D1 head coach before. Both could potentially retain Parker (CSU grad) and Shunner (married to Cavs host Cayleigh Griffin), although I have a hard time believing Robinson wouldn’t want to take most of his staff with him.
Externally, there’s a long list of assistants with some connection to CSU that could make sense.
Jermaine Kimbrough
Jermaine Henderson
Rob Summers
Gates and Robinson both came out of left field with no prior connection to CSU, so I’m sure there will be a host of other names as well.
Cleveland State Conducts Zoom with Coaching Legend
Word on the street is that Bob Huggins had an initial Zoom with Cleveland State this past Friday morning. The former West Virginia / K-State / Cincinnati / Akron head coach has been out of coaching since 2023. Obviously the other popular name here is Mizzou assistant (and former Cleveland State assistant) Rob Summers. He was part of the staff that had a ton of success at CSU under Dennis Gates.
I wonder about this ... because Mac and Hodge both used very short game-time rotations. I tend to think it's more of a "trust" and "what I've seen in practice" thing where UNT (like most G5's) just don't have deep rosters... and coaches are paid to win... so they are going to keep their best 5-7 out there as long as humanly possible (unless they have a lot of depth).
You probably don't encourage anyone to leave unless they were a cancer on the previous team. I don't think that was an issue. Nothing along those lines ever showed.
But, we will have to start all over again.
Hard to do anything when a kid isn't given an opportunity to play. Hodge screwed all the guys on the bench. Well, at least they gave Stone able time over his career to prove he wasn't an option.
