"The spring is different than the fall because you are not working with brand new guys for the most part.

In the fall the new guys are in shock, almost. They have been the best athlete on the field since Jr. High, and suddenly they are getting their ass whipped every play, but it is a teaching experience.

After they get whipped you can say "Try this, or move your feet more." and they find they are able to compete if they are willing to keep fighting. They find out that every play is going to be a tough matchup, and they have to fight every play to be able to compete.

We keep running fresh players at them to wear them down to see if they will continue to fight when they are tired.

But that is the fall, in the spring you look at who had the discipline to keep themselves in shape, who learned their lessons and who didnt."
