Evan Grant was switched off the DMN Rangers beat and people, including me, were pissed because he was good at his job. Evan Grant found a gig with D Magazine and rebuilt his following when Inside Corner existed. The DMN saw this and money-whipped back him into their fold.

Lesson:If you can generate the numbers and give the paper a reason to be concerned, they'll find you. You have to not just write better than who they have, but report on the subject better than them, too -- with the leads and sources and what not.

If the shine wears off and Nats McGee has the same following Evan did in August/September for a crappy baseball team, someone in D.C. will find a way to give him monies.

I'm sure that is what this guy is hoping for. Still, I wonder if it could be viable to be an independent. I noticed he is looking for advertisers right now. That is probably the best way to keep that thing going but I was mostly wondering about the fan-supported coverage.

Let's say he eschewed any advertisers, and relied solely on donations, how long do you think it could last?

Yep. I think the only thing that could save him would be a miracle run by the Nationals. That could potentially set this guy up for at least a good two year run.
