Off the WAC board. Tech is a nearby non-aq team, so thought this might be interesting.

Tech is proposing a four-year, $960,000 contract for Bruce Van de Velde, who would take over as athletics director after serving on an interim basis after the departure of AD/football coach Derek Dooley.

Dykes, meanwhile, has signed a five-year, $2.5 million deal to coach at Tech. Dooley’s now-voided five-year deal, signed in January 2007, included a total salary package of $1.925 million — a figure that once made him the highest paid Tech football coach in school history.

His contract is through 2015.

$450k base. It's 200k from the school supplemented by 250k from the foundation...guaranteed.

On the field incentives include:

---25k for a bowl appearance, conference championship, or WAC coach of the year award (cumulative)

---150k for a bcs bowl (in addition to any other 25k bonuses)

He gets the following bonuses for off the field performance:

--25k for a grad rate of 70%

--35k for a grad rate of 75%

--45k for a grad rate of 80% or above

--additional supplements for meeting NCAA APR targets

He is allowed keep any money obtained through operating football camps and from endorsements of shoe, apparel or equipment.

He also gets perks such as membership in Squire Creek (elite golf and social club), which is around 25k for the first year and 5k for subsequent years.

800k buyout if he leaves before the 2014 season. Following a 24 month review period, Tech officials can extend this contract for two additional years.

To me, this is impressive for La. Tech - it says they are very serious about being competitive at the D-I level. It is incentive laden and rewards Dykes highly for success on the field. I would love to see what his assistant budget is as that is a big piece to consider when reviewing this package as well.
