Saw an article in the San Antonio Paper this morning that UNT is honoring Hector Rodriquez today. He is a former Supt. of Schools in San Antonio and a former athete at UNT . He is in the athletic Hall of Fame at UNT, enshrined in 2006. He was the first Hispanic given a athletic scholarship and the first Hispanic letter winner.he ran track for UNT.

Buff, it's Vic(tor) Rodriguez. He was a good guy and a good athlete but I don't think that he makes the HOF had he not been the Superintendent of Schools in San Antonio.

He was not the best miler on the team when he was here (Dale Imel was). He was not the first Hispanic track star to enter the Hall of Fame (that honor went to Richard Menchaca). He was, however, a great member of relay teams. So, while I'm not convinced that he deserves to be in our athletic Hall of Fame, he definitely deserves some honor. In fact, a lot of honor.

GEO,

Not trying to start a "pissing contest," but here is what the article said.

http://blogs.mysanantonio.com/weblogs/the_local_scene/

A reception will be held at Willis Library at the University of North Texas

in Denton on Wednesday to honor the life achievements of Victor Rodriguez,

the former superintendent of the San Antonio Independent School District.

A school spokeswoman said that Rodriguez has donated his papers to the library,

and that they will be on display in an exhibit through May 14. Rodriguez ran track

at the school, then known as North Texas State, in the 1950s.

Rodriguez was the first Hispanic scholarship athlete and the first Hispanic letterman

in North Texas history. He was inducted into the UNT Hall of Fame in 2006.

All Buff was doing is reporting what the article said, which came from a University press release.
