With all the discussion about recruit ratings, I had some time and decided to see how Harry's projected starting lineup for 2010 rates for 'star power'.(Rivals)

OFFENSE

WR - Jackson **

WR - Cole **** Xfer - rating when signed with OSU

Wildcat - Carey **

T - Santiago **

G - Feeley **

C - Johnson **

T - Gill **

K - Olen **

DEFENSE

DE - Akpunku **

DT - Jackson **

DT - Atkinson ***

DE - Obi **

OLB- Johnson ***

MLB- Robertson **

OLB- Herron ** Xfer rating when signed by SMU

S - Smith ***

S - Cook ***

CB - Hill **

CB - McCord **

P - Atterbury **

*** Defensive recruits 2010 not in Harry's starting lineup

Yes, but if you use all of the recruiting services selectively you can show where every player is at least a 3* according to someone.

Yes, recruiting services are often wrong. There is no sure way to tell how a recruit will workout four and five years later.

That given, Rivals seems to have a good reputation and that is what 61 used.

The recruiting services are for athletes what SATs are for students: A useless means to determine whether any individual will actually succeed, but a pretty reliable indicator for the potential for success. They get those marks for measurable ability, but once they get to campus, they gotta work their butts off to make something of themselves, regardless of those evaluations. It's still a roll of the dice on any individual case, but you are hedging your bets with a higher rating that things will pan out.

That said, there's nothing more rewarding, as a fan, to see some underrated kid come in, hit the weights/books, knock heads on the field/in class, and come out on top.
