I am happy about the hire and to some degree it does restore my interest into next season, but don't you guys think we may be a bit knee-jerk about this and what our 2010 season will look like? I am hopeful that this thing succeeds but I am not ready to declare anything yet. For your sakes, I hope you guys tread lightly. We might be in for some big disappointment. I am still in a wait and see mode.

On a somewhat of a side note... i think it hilarious that someone has suggested that we don't have to have a winning record to keep dodge around longer. And to take it further, that because of this hire Dodge could actually be a BCS coach. Not anytime in this decade. You have got to be kidding me!

That being said , thank u RV. You done good ;)

Sincerely,

A negative, but hopeful, ned

We are in the same boat Travis.

I don't want to be negative either , but I'm not going to get my hopes up. 1 coordinator hire does not make up for being one of , if not the worst team in all of football over the past several years. Unless Canales can bring in a stud D Lineman recruit we still have a ton of issues. Our biggest problem last year wasn't on the offense side of the ball. I think our offense can be very good , but if we can't keep the other team from scoring 40+ a game then it won't make a difference

DFW to Newburgh will run you about $352 with a connection in Detroit. DFW to White Plains is running about $261 with a connection in Chicago.

I would rather fly into Newark it is usually cheaper and only an hour away, or so. Plus you have more flights to choose from, most non-stops and cheaper rental car rates. Also you drive right by the Giants stadium on the way up to west point and it is something to see even if it is to boo at.

I used to fly into Stewart when I was working on my pilot's license. My family's airport is do west of Stewart by about 12 miles, called Wurtsboro Airport, we sold it two years ago.

I guess I am in the boat with both of you boys. I am estatic on this hire and think it is a good move on the head coaches part....I do have a question though that maybe someone can point me to - where are we reading or learning that Dodge has "turned over the offense" to Canalas? And is he has, does this mean we have a wide open competition at the QB spot?

I think if Canalas has total control of the playcalling and the ability to add a FB and TE into this offense, then we could possibly get to 5 wins next year, though I still don't see us getting past that win total next year. Good hire though and I do hope I am wrong.

Ugh...EWR makes me cringe, but you're right...more options into there. Fares are a little higher, though. It's not IF they're going to have a delay program in place, but when and how nasty.

Maybe you should charter a KingAir into N82. :)

I do have a question though that maybe someone can point me to - where are we reading or learning that Dodge has "turned over the offense" to Canalas? And is he has, does this mean we have a wide open competition at the QB spot?

GMG'99 - In nearly every published article concerning Canales' hire, Dodge is quoted as stating that Canales will call the offensive plays, coach QBs and that the QB position is open for competition. I know it's hard to believe, but that's what Dodge is saying. Just read the Q & A on the official website

MeanGreenSports: Pull the curtain back a little bit on the hiring process and take us through the three week process of finding a new OC?

Dodge: "It's been about three weeks and I did all kinds of research on different kinds of offenses throughout the country. I looked at the different kinds of experience that guys had and as we talked with different guys we found that Mike was absolutely the best fit."

"I decided as we went through the search that if I couldn't find what I was looking for, a guy who could come in and coach QB's and be the OC, I would have to go in another direction."

MeanGreenSports: Who will call plays next year?

Dodge: "He (Mike) will be the play-caller. He's being hired as the coordinator and as I told Mike there are going to be some absolutes that he's already doing and I will simply turn into a guy who will be a resource for him on offense. He will coach the quarterbacks on an everyday basis and that's very important."

Or, from the Denton Record Chronicle, Mean Green hires Canales to run offense -

All of the starting spots will be open heading into spring practice, including the quarterback spot, Dodge said.

Harry - maybe you should pin a thread with the title "Canales to call plays, coach QBs, open QB competition" so all of those that disappeared after the football season will know what's going on when they peek in on GMG every now and then?? :D

I spent a lot of time in planes and gliders around N82 a beautiful area to fly around. Now I fly mostly out of KLNC not very pretty here, just flat. Newark (EWR- Echo Whiskey Romeo - for you non aviation types) compared to Laguardia or JFK is much easier to get out of the City area. Shoot up I-95 to Palisades Pkwy north until you get 9W the rest of the way as I remember you can't miss it.
