After running up a $1.4 trillion deficit in one year, calling for a spending freeze is like a fat guy going on a diet after a pie eating contest.

numbers without context. How quickly we all forget in the name of team politics. Can you truthfully tell me that the Republicans would not have passed a stimulus package had they been in control?

H.E., I guess we will not know if the Republicans would have replicated what the Democrats have done over the last 12 months......however, I seriously doubt it. We do know that Bush gave out two stimulus checks, to the people, during his time in office. We do know that this administration has run up more debt than all other administrations combined. We do know that unemployment has doubled (under bush a tad less than 5%)in the last 12 months, banking takeovers, auto takeovers, more government jobs & fewer private sector jobs.......I could go on but choose not to bore you with an overload.

Really, the whole debate over the last 12 months depends upon if you believe in a large federal government controlling our lives or if you believe on the reliance of the people to choose and determine their destinies via the private sector. What can the federal government do better than the private sector? IMHO, nothing....other than tax and print money. Medicare/Medicade....bankrupt. Amtrak....runs in the red. Airlines....subsidized. Railroads....subsidized. Federal government....bloated and unaccountable for spending. If anyone ran their business like the federal government you would be bankrupt in less than a year.

Obama must have blamed Bush about 10 or 12 times last night on the SoU. Ok, time to man up and take some responsibility.

Hey, what is the new high speed rail the people are going to pay for? I can't wait to see the federal price tag on this baby. Does this fall under shovel ready jobs?

I heard that the spending freeze is to stop some of the welfare checks going out...making people more responsible for their own lives.

Obama what are you doing????????? That is a conservative idea!!!

And making the Supreme Court look like fools...Corporations who have given so much to the people must have a voice!!!!

Whether I agree or disagree with Obama's opinion on the recent Supreme Court decision, his choice of venue and sense of timing was horrible, disrespectful and cowardly last night. The State of the Union was no place to bully the Supreme Court and put their decision on trial in the court of public opinion especially when they had no chance of rebuttal. Now granted he did say, "With all due deference to Separation of Powers." but that shouldn't give you the right, even as POTUS, to rhetorically give 'the bird' to the Supreme Court should it? If you are in the ARMY can you say anything you want to a general simply because you preface it by saying, "with all due respect sir"?

Once again, the nation sees that Obama can deliver a speech. Never mind the content and all the "playing to his fan base" without any real substance at all...the guy can deliver a speech. What he cannot deliver is results! That has been demonstrated quite clearly. His union bosses will not let him do what he seems to want to try to do now and that's move more to the middle as Clinton did when his presidency was in big trouble. Clinton actually was successful in reviving his presidency, Obama, well that remains to be seen and the jury is definitely out.

Time to grow up and stop blaming everything on things "before you walked through the door". How weak is that? Man up and shut up and start doing something about it if you want to "change" things. You sound like a third grader! Being disrespectful to the Supreme Court judges was plain stupid and arrogant...and pretty low class.

As far as the Republican response...I had the same opinion as others have expressed...weak at best but better than Jindal. Too much "talk" and rah rah and very little in the way of specifics. Another lost opportunity by the Republicans who seem to have absolutely no leadership at the moment. It is amazing how badly the democrats are doing in the face of absolutely NO strong leadership from the republicans. I can only imagine how badly the dems would be reeling right now if the Republicans had any measure of leadership.

The 2010's should be great fun!

Well the State of the Union is for a podium for the White House. And ruling that Companies that gave us cancer and Suburban bliss of Credit and more disaster than ever before....yea lets keep it going on the EIB network. When will the people have a real say in our own country. Why can we not have a 3rd party emerge from this debacle. Allowing the Brave New World of Corporations tell us what to think and do will only empower the ones who already have!!! Oh yea if you work real hard you can definately make it in this country. The success stories keep rolling in .... Thanks banks, thanks wall street, thanks Washington! And oh yea, I am not so fond of any of them. But we the sheep will keep the machine rolling out of fear and outdated lawes

I and the Bureau of Labor Statistics take issue with those numbers you are reporting

Has unemployment gotten worse? Yes! I think part of what you are seeing is a trend continuing from late 2008. Arguments could be made that Obama has not done enough (or anything) to stop this trend, but I think he could hardly be blamed for "doubling the unemployment rate". It also appears that job losses may be stabilizing, hopefully to start decreasing soon...

so it sounds like Pelosi wants to freeze defense spending and gut the military much like Clinton did in the 90's then claim they created a huge deficit all the while leaving the States vulnerable due to a skeleton army. Remeber Clinton have Bin Laden in kill sights and refused to pull the trigger.
