So, now we know who actually owns this administration. No more guessing...bought and paid for by the unions. Hard to argue that after his cave in on the taxing of high end health plans. Discrimination at its very base level...this is just too incredible to believe no matter which side of the aisle you favor.

It's a very sad day indeed for this great nation of ours when this blatant form of discrimination comes directly from the White House. Bought and paid for....good grief! :(:censored::cry::disgust::shocking:

---The Banks sure don't own him.... They are irate that he wants to get the "tax money back" that was used to bail them out.... instead of paying their execs large bonuses. --Sounds to me like he is trying to do the right thing. Banks and their lending practices are largely responsible for this mess anyway.

Asking the Banks to pay for the Auto bailout might have me a little hot under the collar as well.

The banks already [ayed back the money and interest. Obama is having to payout back the Gov't failures of GM and the auto companies, but he once againthink the Americans are stupid and naive.

The banks are getting screwed for being successful, they have paid back their money and interest, but shhhhh!!!!

Back to the topic being discussed.... Unions cut a deal to be exempt from the health care tax the rest of us will have to pay.

Yup... True dat.

Fact - Many banks (Wells Fargo comes to mind) objected to TARP and didn't want or need it in the first place.

Fact - Most of the bank money from TARP has been paid back, with interest.

Fact - All of the original TARP money hasn't even been spent.

...but don't let the facts get in the way of the talking points that promote class envy and warfare.

Regarding the move on the healthcare bill, here's the deal that was put together overnight.

If you have one of the so called "Cadillac Plans" and are part of a Union, you will not have to pay the surtax.

If you have one of the so called "Cadillac Plans" and are NOT part of a union, you WILL have to pay the surtax.

...yeah, that's fair. The Surtax is a bad idea in the first place, but this is epic. I don't know how ANYONE supports this bill anymore on any side. Let me see if I understand this. If I pay for an expensive comprehensive plan to protect my family, the goverment is now going to make it harder for me to afford to give my family the quality healthcare I'm providing for them today? Isn't this about IMPROVING healthcare? ...or is it really about paying back political supporters?

My favorite part in reforming Health Care is that in order to reduce costs we're raising or creating new taxes.

The democrat party knows no other way to govern than to raise taxes and spend money to buy votes in the hope they will remain in power. The problem is that they think the American public is stupid enough to go along with the system. I think the American public is smarter than that and I see a bit of a "wake up call" in this latest blatant attempt to curry favor with the unions.

Which points to the insane, Marxist comment's made by Obama on Thursday.

Obama to Announce $120 Billion Tax on Large Banks

The definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over again, expecting different results. Here is a good example of insanity: The Washington Post reports a "proposed tax on large banks, which President Obama plans to announce on Thursday, is intended to constrain risk-taking and discourage outsize bonuses, in addition to recouping some of the cost of the government's various bailout programs, officials said." The officials said the administration "wants to collect about $120 billion from banks over 10 years, taxing banks based on the amounts they have borrowed to finance lending and other activities." The administration "plans to include the proposed tax in the budget it delivers to Congress in February," but what "emerges from Congress, however, could be markedly different."

As Dr. Levin continues to point out to everyone who is paying attention:

"The Marxist rejects everything we stand for - they hate the businessman, they hate the investor, and they hate the bankers."

Rick better watch out CNN and the Libs see Marx as the new "N" Word, don't want you to be a racist.

OIn a side note, why do Democrats not look at history and see that raising taxes always decreases revenue to the government? Oh thats right nobody is allowed to be rich except for the Elite Libs.

what is so wrong with having free commerce? Like allowing Health Insurance across state lines, lowering taxes to kick start business, name the last poor person to create a job and not suck one away.

Gov't always ruins everything they get their hands on. The Finance Sector, Health Care (Medicaid, Medicare, VA Hospitals), Auto Industry (CAFE Standards), Mortgage Sector (Frank, Dodd, and Fannie Mae), but that is just me.

The government made AIG go crazy with everyone's money? A government regulator blew the whistle on Madoff at least twice. But then, what does a government employee know?

A few words... Enron... World-Com.... Madoff.... and Banks and financial institutions that made insane loans that required to be bailed out.

Government is not all good but to completely trust business to take care of you and treat you fairly is even more insane.

The lack of government controls contributed to this mess and even more so the crash of 1929. How was things during the later part of the 1800's when the robber-barons were in control of industry and railroads. We have so many government regulations because of what they did. The rich was super rich and those who worked for them worked in extremely unsafe conditions and often for terrible saleries.... I am sure you had to take some history to graduate.

If we did what the conservations of their time wanted, slavery would still exist, you would have to be a land-owner to vote, be 21 to vote, women could not vote or hold office etc. Look at the countries with weak governments and you you see weak, corrupt countries with extreme wealth and poverty. .

None in our government should be considered Marxist or Facist.... which are exact opposites. I hate to see people claim we are either. That is what listening to the extremes make some people into. Prior to all this talk radio etc. people were a lot more unified that now.... People of opposite parties were once friends but disgreed on some issues and were not so hateful....This was even true in the 60's and 70's.... which I lived through as an adult. Things were not even this bitter when Watergate appeared. Things began to change in the 80's when 24 hours news appeared as well as excessive talk radio/TV. ..........largely because of communication satilites became available.... put up by the greatest nation on earth... USA..

Rick please stop this this Marxist talk... you can disagree... but don't go that far... I love America.... and things will change.. it always has. I came from a home as a kid with no electricity, no gas, (thus no refridgerator, water heater, or radio), no indoor plumbing and TV didn't really exist or interstates (a governemnt project) , no free lunches for kids (they just went hungry, I was aware of some teachers buying some of them lunch) ---but despite what I said we were not exactly poor (owned farm/ranchland) .... we lived outside of town an those things just did not exist for us... the world and things change.... How has the world changed for me.. I will be in Europe and also Alaska before fall.... something that kid (me) never thought possible. I teach college classes. I doubt you were any of those things and have no idea what it is like to be there....

Just knock off calling any American politician a Marxist or Facist (Fascist governmets tend to be in partnerhsip with industry as Germany was in 1930's) ... You talk like someone who has never been in foreign countries or understand how different many of them are.... and some of them have a very good lifestyle..not just us...but some are very terrible and which ones are very obvious.... those are the ones wanting to come here. I have noticed we don't have an illegal alien problem from Germany, France, England, Holland, Sweden etc. and very few legal aliens from those countries other than ones sent here by their employers. Think about it.

The fact that I point out that Obama is a marxist and that he doesn't even hide it does not mean I love America any less than you. But sadly, the advances this great nation earned through capitalism and wealth creation and all that it has built up and supported that allowed someone such as yourself to become who you are today, was lost on you.

SE, you have to remember that the government "forced" banks to make these insane loans that you are talking about. The government forced these banks to make loans to individuals who did not qualify and to undocumented workers. I believe this happened under the Clinton Administration. No federal money comes without strings attached. It is almost paramont to asking the godfather for a favor. You just never get out of the quicksand.

I see nothing wrong with the people determinining our own options in a capitalistic state. I see nothing wrong with people becoming super rich because of achievement as long as people determine if they want to purchase those goods and services for the prices offered. What I do see wrong is having the government say that you are making too much and you have to be penalized for your achievement. I would much rather have that option than surrender my freedoms to let goverment make all my decisions for me in a facist or socialistic state. Would you not prefer to do your own thinking and acting than have the government take over that responsibility for you? Obama, Pelosi, Reid.....and others in the democratic part want government to control your lives.......that is socialist. Look at "hell-th" care. IMHO, it is not constitutional for the federal government to force this upon its citizens ..... it is not self determination of a democratic government and these measures go against the self determination of a free democratic state.

You have got to be kidding. Forced the Banks? If anything the government regulators were forced to look the other way.

Revisionist history at its best. Ever heard of CRA? Community banks were, indeed, "forced" to make loans to less than "quality" borrowers in less than desirable areas if they had any hopes of getting new charters approved for new bank locations and/or expanding their branch network. In my 30+ year banking career I had many many standoffs with "community groups" including ACORN and the now defunct "Texas State Employees Assoc." (anyone recall that group? The former leader is either still in jail or recently out) who tried to extort concessions for their personal groups. We either played along with their demands or they protested, called out the bank regulators, called upon their membership to protest our expansion (and at times expansion of our bank network into well "under-served areas"). In addition to this direct extortion, it caused banks to make some pretty unsound loans going in...knowing there was a big chance of loss just to be able to place the appropriate check mark on their annual CRA report to the regulators. Also, banks started making bigger and bigger contributions to such "community action" groups in the hopes that they would not "protest" every time the bank wanted to expand its operations.

You won't get many current bankers to admit to all this as it is still happening, but talk to any number of community bankers that have been around before and after the adoption of the "Community Reinvestment Act" and you'll see what I am talking about.

Silver, you can call it what you want, but "been there done that" little routine. This is not the entire problem, by any means, but it certainly didn't/doesn't help the situation.

No, he's not kidding. This has been covered in about 600 threads in this forum, and I'm not inclined to rehash it now.

...but let me ask you a question - a REAL SERIOUS QUESTION. What type of regulation do you suggest the Government put in place to keep this type of thing from happening again. I'm very anxious to know.

Well, how about we go back to the regulations that were in place when I first entered the housing market (late 70's). 20% down and a loan that was well within the income of the person trying to take out the loans.

BTW Kram, I'm no more a revisionist than you are a shill for the rich........or are you?
