According to espn insider

WFMY-TV in Greensboro, N.C., reported just after 4 p.m. ET that sources close to Duke coach David Cutcliffe say that he has accepted the Tennessee job.

RockyTopTalk.com reported earlier that a source in the Duke athletic department said that Cutcliffe was expected to make some sort of announcement shortly, though it was unclear on what.

However, Knoxville News-Sentinel beat writer Austin Ward tweets that no one who covers the Vols has heard that it's a done deal, and that a UT source confirms that the interview process is not over.

Knoxville CBS affiliate, WVLT, is reporting the same news. I guess the dominoes on this trail will stop here - I don't see Duke hiring a big name coach but I could be wrong.

However, we may still have the dominoes falling for the ECU job. It will be interesting, from a Mean Green perspective, if they go after Stockstill as charlie nt73 mentioned in another thread. Don't forget, former Troy OC, Tony Franklin, is currently MTSU's OC. I guess he could either be promoted to HC at MTSU or take his old job back at Troy. Or.....it seems like I know someone else in need of an OC....

Not a very buzz-worthy hire in my opinion. He has an overall college record of 53-44 at Ole Miss and Duke. Tennessee could have done better, no need for them to rush a hire and get it wrong.

I think they thought they needed to get into a rush as they were losing recruits. Of course, the one's they lost probably couldn't be saved by Cutcliffe anyway.

I think that this will turn out to be a good hire. Duke was 2-33 for the three years before they hired Cutcliffe and he won four games his first year. I never really understood why Ole Miss got rid of him when they did. Other than a couple of losses to Mississippi State the rest were to quality teams...LSU, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, and Arkansas. He won his first two bowl appearances against Texas Tech and Oklahoma.

As Rob said he may have had health issues. He's been at Tennessee before and I believe that they know his capabilities and I wouldn't expect him to cut and run if he's successful.

He has done fine things at Duke...bringing back excitement and even winning some ACC games! Most of the ACC schools have high academic standards with the obvious exceptions of the "student-athletes". Duke, to their credit, has maintained some reasonable academic standards for their athletes. To do as well as they did in the past few years says quite a bit for their coaching staff.

BTW, their stadium is not unlike Fouts.

Wow. Cutcliffe makes Duke competitive in football...and some of our fans pooh-pooh him as a coach. Amazing.

Is 9-15 considered competitive? At Duke and NT recently maybe, Tennessee, no. Not dishing him as a college coach in general, but as a coach for a national program like Tennessee, yes.

Hmmm. Well, Cutcliffe was an assistant at Tennessee for 19 years...and was the offensive coordinator and quarterback coach for some slackoff named Peyton Manning. Won a national title with Tee Martin at the helm. And, coached another half-as*ed QB at Ole Miss named Eli Manning. Just luck, I'm sure. Probably just stood there all those years and had the people around him do all the work.

He may be the next Urban Meyer someday but right now his coaching record (wins/losses) says otherwise at the top level. I think Tennessee should be able to lure any coach below SEC level to that high profile of a job and he wouldn't be my top choice for it.
