I think our fan base would follow women's basketball well if we were good. The reason I say is that when we were in the SLC in the 80's SFA's women's team was very good and I believed ranked fairly high. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe they and La Tech were two of the best women's teams in the region at the time. Anyhow, the SLC games were always paired with women playing first followed by the men, and the crowds got there just before tip off of the men's game. But not in Nacogdoches. The men played first. Then just before tip off for the women's game the crowd showed up and they packed the house. And brother, their women's team would beat the crap out of us.

Watch TCU this year as they draw closer to March as another example. They seem to be headed in the right direction. They're ranked 25th right now and are drawing about 2200-2500 per home game. If they can continue to build on their success and rise in the rankings I think you'll see some very good crowds start to show up at Daniel Myer.

Yes both SFA and La Tech have good histories of women's basketball, mainly because of long term coaches like Gary Blair who turned them into attendance events. Here, not so much. Vito reports 18 fans in the stands for the women's game.

Just a question...have you made any positive post since you have been on gmg? give us some links

Yes, yes he has. He makes positive posts about June Jones all the time.

Do you really think this is in way funny or appropriate? Yes, I know it is a carry-on from previous failed attempts at juvenile humor, but this kind of junk gets old.

NO, NO! That wasnt the question.

the junior high kids have taken over the board. back to the topic does anyone here really care about womens basketball? sorry but other than football and mens basketball the only ones that really follow non revenue sports are parents of the players.

Try going out to a UNT womens soccer game on a Friday night when OU, SMU, Baylor etc. are in town and see if you can find a seat. Went to a game a few years ago against OU, came a little late and had to stand for the whole match....crowd was electrifing and was one of the best games i've seen with our ladies beating the sooners 3-2 in overtime.

The irony is that Gary Blair wanted very badly to coach the Lady Eagle; after an incredible run as girls coach at Dallas South Oak Cliff. He interviewed with the AD who later stated that he preferred a female coach.
