For the life of me, I don't know why people have such a problem with the restaurant chain, Hooters.

Their food is decent. I've never found anything the least bit obscene about the places. It's cute girls wearing short shorts....and t-shirts. Like you can't see that 100s of places in the summer.

Topless bars recruit from Hooters. Porn industry recruits from topless bars.

Gives a new mean to the whole slippery slope argument.

That's a Rivals site I'd pay for.

These were high school students - no big deal at all. I've seen younger kids in Hooters.

Never heard that one before, sound like BS to me.

Absolutely true. But, if don't believe me, next time you are in a Hooters, ask your waitress (as long as she is cute and endowed enough) how many strip club managers have approached her about a change in career path. Or, even better, ask the manager how many girls he has lost to strip clubs.

I assume this is the part that you think is BS, because I think it is well documented that the porn industry recruits from the strip clubs.

Yes...please strike up this conversation. Then share your experience.

That is such a silly thought any cute well endowed waitress or bartender gets this crap, they don't have to work at Hooters.

---It is a dumb deal and see nothing wrong with going there personally ...but the teacher knowing that some people would object to taking high school students there showed poor judgement. They were asking for trouble.

---What the heck does strip clubs "supposedly" recruiting there have to do with anything (I doubt that that is very common anyway). I have had a student or two in my classes (I teach) that I've heard worked in one of those clubs... Does that mean the other students should not attend college??? ..and yeah ... and Hooters has posted "help wanted" signs on campuses bulletin boards too... I guess that also means College should be avoided ...

---Most of the Hooter girls I have talked to were just trying to work their way through college or just pay their bills... Big deal.

---Good grief.... strip club to porn industry does make sense.... Hooters to Strip clubs... big stretch...especially most locations...... Have you actually ever been to one (Hooters) ... especially near a college campus??? I guess next you will claim all well endowed girls are likely to be strippers. More skin is revealed at beaches and swimming pools than Hooters.

I am 100% with SUMG here...Hooter's is fine...and I see no reason for this teacher getting in so much hot water. My wife loves Hooter's and I like it as well. I do not find the food overpriced nor do I find the food anything but tasty, and the beer is cold. What's not to like?

When Hooter's first came on the scene the waitresses "played up" the "Hooter's" theme and were instructed to act certain ways with male clients. That is long past. If you have taken the time to visit a Hooter's recently you will find some nice young waitresses trying to make a living and working in a tough job. I find that people who rag on Hooter's due to the waitresses attire or the name have rarely if ever eaten at one of the restaurants and just want to vent....as far as the dress of the waitresses, you can see much more walking across the UNT campus on any sunny spring or summer day, and at any beach, swimming pool and at most Christmas or holiday parties.

Now, was the teacher really smart...probably not judging from the mess she is getting herself into. If I had a kid in that choir I would have seen it as a fun way to show what the choir could do in a "different" environment than the normal stage production. I would have also enjoyed a cold beer and some wings while I enjoyed the choir. Here, it seems they only ate at the Hooter's.

Some people just need to get a life.

And, by the way...we sold two Tank Army T-shirts to a couple of Hooter's girls the day of the Army game. Both are UNT students. How many other folks just walked by and and ignored our efforts to raise scholarship dollars? One of the young ladies said she had a partial scholarship at UNT and was happy to help others get the same help. I doubt she will be recruited as a stripper and end up in the porn industry.

By the way, the article didn't say anything about the choir performing at Hooter's...I was sort of adding that point to the mix as I think it would be fun for the choir...remember, UNT had the Coach Dodge show at the local Denton Hooter's until the PC police got involved! Ha!

---Kram you get it (also others) .... some here belong in the Puritan movement and are making irrational conclusions. . I did not know what you said about official waitress "behavior" changing but had noticed it is different than my first visit near Houston about 15 years ago. I had just suspected it was just the location.

--- Knowing these "puritan" people exist..... makes her decision a poor one. [ They seem to think Hooters is a strip joint ]

You know, there's one thing that's been missed in this situation, which is more specifically related to it being a choir involved. Many choirs have difficulty keeping a good balance of male and female voices, due to a shortage of men volunteering for this activity (yes, I sing in my CHURCH choir). Perhaps this could be seen as an incentive to attract more male voices.

Yep. Just like every single dancer in a strip club will tell you they are working their way through college. Wonder who makes more money? ;)

Talk to the manager of your local Hooters on your next visit. Better yet, talk to the manager of your local high class strip club and ask him where he recruits.

I'm not telling you to believe me, I'm telling you to ask for yourself. I'm more than confident of the answers that you will get.

Or, just keep that head in the sand and believe the world is the way you want to perceive.

Not true. Strip club managers target Hooters because of the blatant sexuality that is marketed.

I'm sure now-a-days that they also target Bone Daddy's, Twin Peaks, and the likes also.

Maybe it is me but I never been to a hooters where I thought the girls were all that attractive. And definitely not good Strip Club material. Maybe I have bad luck, the girls at sneaky Pete's seem much better to me and they had a bathing suits and ties off t-shirt tops.

I'm sure they hit all the bars and restuarants like this. It doesn't mean every girl that works at a Hooters or Sneaky Petes is gonna become a dancer, but if you ask them, I bet many have had the "opportunity" floated by them.

I'm not trying to be the morality police here. These girls make their own decisions. But you better believe the strip club managers eat at these establishments on a regular basis and attempt to recruit the girls.

If you are not trying to be the morality police the what is you point?!?!?!

I have been working in hospitality for over a decade in all different forms but mainly in hotels, and yes I did get my hospitality degree from the great U of NT... In my tenure in Guest Services (Bellman, Valet, Concierge, Management etc.) with major luxury hotels I have come across my share of "slime" strip club managers, pimps, women of the night, strippers, call girls, etc... etc... etc... Through out my experience with these individuals through the hotel and the hotel's guests I can tell you with a fair degree of certainty that you sir, are full of S on this topic.

Of course strip club managers seek out attractive women, that is part of their job. But they do it everywhere and hooters or twin peaks etc. are not targeted as potential "career fairs" for lack of a better term. I think that you should spend a bit more time respecting these ladies opinions and choices and less time demonizing an organization that has nothing to do with it like Hooter's. These managers go to college campuses, beaches, malls, hotel front desks ... really anywhere you can find attractive women to find potential employees. But I think that you are forgetting, in your assumption that Hooter's is the almost equivalent to a den of iniquity, that these women make their own decisions and choose where they want to be employed on their own. Many of them decide to go directly to the club and apply, like any other job, due to the incredible monetary benefits that go with the job.

Back to my original question, if you say that you are not trying to be the morality police the what is it that you are trying to accomplish? Many people here have said that this teacher made a bad decision, and I happen to agree. But you took that idea to a totally different level. Why?

Good God, Did you even read the post you quoted?

Thanks for agreeing with everything I said, yet seeming to be outraged by the agreement. Look at what is highlighted. Now, ask yourself, would they approach an attractive girl at Sunday service or at Hooters, Bone Daddy's, ect..

Better yet, GO TO ONE OF THESE RESTUARANTS AND ASK THE MANAGER OR WAITRESSES. For the 20th freaking time (Ok, actually 3rd).

And the point of the post was a simple observation on where SOME of these girls end up. Nothing more, nothing less. Guilty conscience?

But, you just keep on believing they are all working their way through college. :D

Where, in the post to which you replied, did hickoryhouse say anything about their "all working their way through college". I think it's likely that some women working at Hooter's have found their way into the porn industry. But, as a North Texas business statistics Professor said in class once (in so many words), "be careful about causality". A lot of people end up in activities that are not what many here would find morally acceptable, who have spent time in college classrooms at North Texas. Some of those probably made some connection (yes, pun intended) to said activities in one of those classes. I feel sure that many more people found an education that prepared them to lead a fuller and more productive life than if they had not pursued a higher education. Overall, UNT90, I'm failing to see your point in this discussion.

Yes, a lot of bad things happen to women who work in the "adult" entertainment industry. I read recently about the disappearance of a woman in this area after leaving a shift at a topless bar (I don't know whether she turned up ok or not, just noticed one mention of it in the media). I'm just not seeing where you are presenting anything other than a "trust me on this one" argument that employment at Hooter's leads to a career as a stripper or in pornography.

DONT TRUST ME, ASK THEM. (for the 4th time).

Jeez, the point was that it is probably not a good idea for a teacher to take kids there. The other was a mere casual fact that some on here somehow find sooo amazing.

Yes, there are the occasional 19 year olds that walk up to a strip club and apply, but many are recruited. PLEASE DONT BELIEVE ME. GO ASK A FREAKING STRIP CLUB MANAGER, AND THEN ASK HIM WHERE HE RECRUITS. HE WILL TELL YOU.

Yes, these girls just magically appear on stage, only paying attention to you, and they have never, ever worked in any other industry that has used sexual explotation to sell it's product.

I gotta go, meeting some friends at Rick's for a late night beer.

Rick's is a strip club now?
